Rubinrot.

Coravin. Initially reticent, but this opened up with an hour of air. Medium youthful ruby color; medium intensity aromatics with elegant red fruits, some leafy greens, slight herbal and mint, pine needle; palate is medium bodied, elegant medium-plus acidity throughout, very balanced and well integrated medium tannins, medium 13.5% alcohol, still quite primary red fruit but with a bit of musk and funk that suggests some age; medium length finish. This will likely improve for a decade, but it’s also quite nice now. 92 Really enjoyable, juicy fruit. Great wine with pizza. I enjoyed this very much.

This is indeed quite elegant in style, with light to medium weight but impressive concentration and persistence on the finish. There's still a light tannic frame remaining, and I don't yet find the bottle sweetness that would indicate maturity. The nose could also use some more time to open beyond the dark berry fruit and incipient leather notes.

PNP and fairly austere following jammy Vietti Barbera. Drank over 2 Nights and less Tannic and acidic on second night. For me Predominant impression is similar to other Sangiovese based wines. I continue to wrestle with giving these wines enough time and air to shine vs personally just not being that fond of the grape. With air, the wine is more expressive but remains only moderately enjoyable. 90-91

First of a case. Enjoyed from a Conterno Sensory from which the nose jumps out. Tangy red cherry, sweet tomato, terracotta dust, cola and a little salty salami - yum! On the palate this is doing that whole “iron fist in a velvet glove” thing which is always fun. Depth and purity to the fruit but elegant and lifted. On the finish some very fine tannins come in which gives a bit a bitter kick and coats the teeth but there is also good acidity. Delicious but the upside is all ahead.

Decanted for 45 minutes and drank over a few hours. Among the striking things is how much fresher and less evolved, especially given the warm vintage, than a 2015 Felsina Rancia from yesterday. Perhaps unsurprisingly, strikingly reminiscent of a 2019 Le Boncie Le Trame from a few weeks ago. Cool red and purple fruit, brown spices, sweet herbs, lavender, cedar. With air, just ripe cherries. The tannins aren’t so aggressive. This seems to just be entering its drinking window, but I wouldn’t touch again for another few years. It shows almost no signs of age.

Christmas Eve is our special day with our immediate family. Today, Amy a long ago public Special Ed teacher of our adult son Joe who at 41 is doing fantastic no small thanks to Amy & a couple other great Special & regular class-room folks joined us for Christmas Day and Nita's homemade pizza. I decided on one of our fav Tuscan reds Montevertine, an anomaly IGT producer from the Chianti region. We love the regular Montevertine! Yes '15 is bit riper but ready to go tonight w/a PnP. Served in Riedel Burgs. Even in '15 this has Montevertine's signature purity, transparency & weightless elegance we love about Montevertine. So utterly fresh! '15 drinks very well before, with & after dinner. Admirable structure & lift w/o graininess to deal with. Amazing floral aromas marry up with red fruit, spice, underbrush, mineral & just a hint of herbs. 13.5% alc. I hope to taste at the estate someday. I'm a fan of many basic Chianti Classico but Montevertine soars over most everything I've tasted from Chianti.
Dark Ruby colour, long legs, violet rim. Nose: red and black cherrieis, grarphite, pencil, prunes, medium (+) intensity. Taste: high acid, tobacco , medium plus tannis small grains but bit aggresive, cherrires, plums, cococa and mocha in the finish. Very good.

First taste of the 2015; it is delicious, but definitely a riper rendition of Montevertine; the fruit is a bit darker and richer, there are still lovely floral notes alongside anise, mint, and just a hint of leather. The palate is also richer and more decadent than typical; the balance is still intact, but it is a definitely bigger wine for this estate; that said, I think this will age very nicely. It shows the heat of the vintage, but manages to display mostly the positives of it without becoming too ripe or heavy. I look forward to trying this again in 5-7 years.

Opened but not decanted for over 45 minutes at a NYC restaurant with my wine group. We all loved it; the palate cleansing acidity of this Sangiovese blend makes it very food friendly. There was some disagreement among our group on whether this was a full bodied or light bodied wine. It probably depended on the entree. I'll split the difference and say it is on the lighter side of a medium bodied wine. It also had a great nose, of cherry and spice.

Opened 3 hrs priors to diner & slow-oxed in Riedel Burg glasses & btl. My first Montevertine was a 1995 Le Pergole Torte gifted to me by a since deceased friend of Nita's & mine. Jon was a wealthy entrepreneur & neighbor with a heart of gold. He recognized my growing wine passion and purchased the Pegole Torte off a wine list from his favorite local steakhouse back around 2000. Kind of an odd way to shop for a wine gift, but that was classic Jon:). He had no idea what Pergole was but the Som told him "your buddy will love this." We'll always remember Jon for his generosity & big personality. I've been a Montevertine fan ever since. Once I figured out what side of the label is the front :). The price has jumped up on the entire line up but especially, the Pergole. So I'm mostly buying the Montevertine regular going forward.
The regular 2015 Montevertine is sweet spot great and a very singular sangiovese dominated Tuscan red. I've always admired its hands off purity, transparency and weightless elegance. The 2015 is another stellar example. Lovely floral aromas marry up with red fruit, spice, underbrush, mineral and just a hint of herbs. Great tonight with pizza. 13.5% alc. This would be a very fun visit at its northern Chianti Radda outpost! Bravo! 93+

Said to be aged 24 months in large Slovenian oak, composed of 90% Sangiovese & 10% Canaiolo. Fruit from mostly old vines planted in 1982. This is drinking great now with more nuance and character than the vast majority of wines at its youthful new release stage. Love it now but I'm sure there is lurking upside with more btl age. That said, the old vines and hands off style make this very intriguing right now. Don't know anything about 2015 in Chianti but this seems a smidge riper than most vintages without any negative impact. As always, one of the best values in classically styled Tuscan reds. Great with outstanding pizza from Il Villaggio Osteria in Teton Village Wy! PnP in Riedel Burg glasses and slow oxed for 75 minutes in glass and btl prior to dinner. Weight wise and aromatically this reminds me so much like red Burgundy that the Burg glasses work great.

This was wonderful, i'm thrilled to have 2 more. Going to lay them down for a long time. Really enjoyed this outside on the deck as the sun went down on a warm summer night. Should decant for an hour, this comes together beautifully. Silky smooth, near perfect balance & surprisingly light. This is not some viscous fruit bomb. Berrys & herbs on the nose, cherry & pepper on the palate. Long & dry for a finish. Take your time with this one, either laying them down or after opening, patience well rewarded here.

I think I have a thing about Sangiovese, I don't like it anymore, unless its somehow amazing or some powerhouse! This did not happen here, it was a thin, not delicious juice(not wine), cannot believe I bought this on a Antonio Galloni tasting note ( I cannot recall anything he wrote) this wine is just , not my style at all!

My first encounter with this winemaker. While at first it seemed to be just a good Chianti with the fresh cherry/berry character and some spicy notes it turned into something more exciting after a few hours.
There still is the fresh cherry and some red berries but now supported by boxwood, dried herbs and some smokey hints. In particular the wide spectrum between the fresh berries and the dark, smokey, undertones make this an exciting wine. On the palate it gives some medium-full body with fresh acidity and dusty-smooth tannins. The finish is also much longer and developped after a few hours. This wine has the structure to last for a long time but it is very enjoyable now if you give it a few hours to develop.

I love Montevertine, but after drinking them since the 2006 vintage realize they are never going to reach the heights of great Burgundy, Barolo, or Northern Rhone for me. I find these tend to be food friendly, and don't really stand up on their own, although they are very elegant, red fruited, with great mouthfeel. Such is life with most sangiovese I suppose, but I had always wished for a bit more flesh and "tasty" factor that i get from some of the other top appellations.
Had this with my wine group, and while not everyone like it, I did. Notes of sour cherry (but not in an overpowering way), good palate cleansing acidity, and a medium-long finish. Nice aromatics on the nose, a mixture of spice and floral notes.

In 2015, it's very easy to see the connection between the Montevertine Rosso and the Pian del Ciampolo. It all comes down to depth and purity, as if the Pian del Ciampolo was suddenly played through a HI-Fi speaker and amplification system with the volume all the way up.
The layered and perfumed bouquet showed an intoxicating mix of dusty exotic floral tones, with candied ginger, ripe strawberry, sweet balsamic spice, hints of floral undergrowth and new leather. On the palate, I found silky textures, yet energetic with a core of brisk acidity adding vibrancy, as mineral-drench sour cherry and strawberry saturated the senses. Savory saline-minerals and spice came forward with time, which lasted well into the long finish, as saturating deep red berry fruits, savory spice and hints of fine tannin settled in deep.
I can't go as high on my score as AG's range, but the 2015 is an easy 94 points, and possibly deserving more if it proves capable of maturing in the cellar.

The Wonderful Wines of Rosenthal Wine Merchant (Pogo's - Dallas, TX): Tasting: Stunner. Elegant, polished bright red fruits, smokey dark cherry, leather emerged and floral / violet notes, with a hint of spice. Cruelly just a taste. Favorite of tasting.

This showed well tonight with a nice expressive nose of earthy florals, red berries and spices, loads of acidity and a long lingering finish

I don't get these wines. This is just as disappointing as the 2013.

Had this with my wine group, and while not everyone like it, I did. Notes of sour cherry (but not in an overpowering way), good palate cleansing acidity, and a medium-long finish. Nice aromatics on the nose, a mixture of spice and floral notes.

Annual Bolomey & Sprezzatura Wine Tasting (Restaurant Entrepot, Amsterdam, NL): Trade tasting, brief note. Wonderfully classic profile, intense and transparent, bracing acidity, fresh and hamonious, tight phenolics, very good length. Needs time but will last.
