Drunk at the Fine Wine Experience Mature California and Australian Wines from the Cellar of John Avery Dinner at Flint Bar and Grill, JW Marriott Hong Kong. Very fresh for its age, oak well integrated but still evident. Some passionfruit notes coming through.

Almost reduced on opening. With a few hours gains strong roasted nut aromatics and richness. Fully mature and good but not at the level of some other older Mt Eden chards.

With K at home at dinner (apple risotto). Deep, dark straw color. Nose is very good, reminiscent of a fine Chassage-Montrachet--butter, French oak, toasty, almost Burgundy--great! Rich And buttery on the palate as well, just like a fine Burgundy. Mouthfilling and very long, with a complex, lovely finish. Excellent wine, unbelievably good. I'd be thrilled if every Chardonnay tasted like this. Gets better and better with air. 5-12-18-8: 93/100.

With K at home at dinner (apple risotto). Extremely deep dark straw color. Nose has the sort of "barnyard" aroma that always suggests to me that this wine is a white Burgundy. Also, creamy oak notes. Fairly complex. In the mouth, full-bodied and complex, but has somewhat off-putting oaky flavor. Somewhat clumsy, it only hints at the glories of other bottles of this wine I have had. Is the wine too cold, too old, or is this simply a relatively bad bottle? Maybe just needs a little time and air to open. For now though, 5-8-16-5: 84/100.

At mom's--our last Thanksgiving together. Attractive gold color. Nose a bit shy. In the mouth, very silky and elegant, wonderful texture. Flavors really shine in the finish with lots of butter and elegantly turned oak. Extremely complex finish goes on and on. 5-10-17-8: 90/100.

With MPL, BLR and Diane at Square One at dinner (swordfish). Yellow-gold. Nose pretty closed, but still with tropical fruit lurking. A very fine flavor in the mouth, delicate yet very buttery and rich. Creamy vanilla. Very good extended finish; then, a touch of bitterness. 5-11-16-7: 89/100.

With MPL at Square One at dinner (salmon). Light gold. Nose closed initially with fruit lurking in the background. With airing, it opened to reveal complex aromas of banana and coconut. On the palate, lively acidity balances round fruit flavors. Very great palate impression. Rich, creamy, broad vanillin oak finish. Fabulous. The finish lasts and lasts. The nose reminds me of ZD. 5-13-18-9: 95/100.

Unfortunately, this bottle was over the hill. Dark tan in color and notes of sherry on the nose and palate.
