Decanted off just a little sediments. This is a wine I bought on release now the last bottle. Paid good money 20 years ago at close to $50. The wine showed a very bright color. Fresh looking still. Quite red and with hardly any tile color. Medium bodied now but still with good tannins. Fresh nose but with a little dried herbs and dried flower. Tasting much younger. The nose is recessed with only light perfume. Excellent now. We brought it to an Italian steakhouse. Very fitting. Not the best older Barolo I have had but very nice. Impressive is that it showed so little age. Been in a cool cellar for nearly 20 years.

Simply excellent and performing just as one could hope. Speaking of Barolo-Barolo and the warm 1997 vintage in a way, that is just so on point! No tiredness at all. One of the first bottles of Premium wine I bought back in 2000/2001 as a 18yo kid and stored in my cool cellar since. 91-92p => 92p for sentimental reasons:-)

Bought from the cellar of a wine shop in Alba. Pristine cork. Wine was heavy, pruney and alcoholic. Would have been better 5 years ago but even then probably not my style.

BYO - Erik (Frederiksberg): Very intense and sweet black currant nose. Lovely intense acidity on the palate with black currant and a tight tannin structure. Green herbs in the aftertaste.

Great example of the danger of higher alcohol & lower acid wines. From the ripe '97 vintage, this wine has degraded over time. Tasted & then purchased a bottle from winery in '02 & has been cellared since so there are no provenance issues to explain it away. The fruit was stewed, but there was a nice sweetness to it....mostly red fruit (cherry). Not much on the nose, which was disappointing too. First thing out of my wife's mouth after tasting this (without knowing what she was tasting) was "oooh, this has a lot of alcohol." 14.5% was listed ont he bottle. Other than that, this wine just seemed disjointed at many levels. Decanted & consumed over 3 hours & do not believe this will improve with time. Only positives are that we bought it for $35 when the exchange rate was good & it brought back great memories of our visit to Barolo!

Good Barolo. Opened at 2 PM, then double decanted at 7 PM. Fairly dark colour, brick around the edges. Classic Barolo nose (tar, rose), full taste and very well integrated after-taste. Tannins present, but enjoyable. Mellower and lusher then the same wine in "95 (tasted in '06). I also own a bottle of '96, what will it bring?

Medium garnet to pinkish rim. Plum nose. Gorgeous mouth, nice fruit. Nice oak with a hint of chocolate and a touch of spice on the finish. Very nice. Will improve over the next few years.

After 23 years still a beast with upfront tannin and rustic earthy notes. Went well with spaghetti.

This is a fabulous wine but starting to look a tiny bit cloudy. Time to consume all we have left.

Vino in ossidazione, ha decisamente scavallato. Predomina l'alcool sia al naso che in bocca. E' al limite del bevibile.

classic barolo profile. notes of iodine & barnyard in nose, stewed fruits and flowers.
very integrated and ready to drink - surprisingly so!
