90 minute decant. Nose of black and blue fruits, tar, and smoky burnt earth. Clean line of black cherries on the palate with lavender, roses, and acidity. Thick, unctuous tannins on the finish with black licorice, black plum, and loads of oak barrel.

14.7% abv. Dark, opaque purple, extremely expressive aromas. On the palate, ripe plum, black pepper, white flowers, a bit of sage. As intense and powerful wine as you will find anywhere. Extreme depth and length. Freakish and delicious.

Nose of black fruits, sweet black cherry, red cherry, and floral notes. Palate brings a wall of rich chocolate, dried herbs, sweet black fruits followed by layers of sweet tannins. Finish adds oak, mocha, sage, dried herbs, black raspberry and light pepperiness.

Have you ever known someone that is both a loud talker and a close talker? That's this wine. No subtlety, no shyness. Bold with black fruits and pepper. Tannic, full-bodied, inky black.

Color: extremely dark violet, squid ink. Nose: blueberry pie, ripe blackberry, violets, slight sulfur, floral candy. Palate: flavors similar to nose, blueberry, floral, slightly earthy on the finish with a hint of wet dirt. Flavors are refined and balanced for a wine this big. Alcohol is noticeable but really secondary. Moderate to low acidity, very strong tannins leave a drying texture. This is an incredible wine that is far from its prime but so hard to wait for if you are fine with strong tannins. Recommend hiding in the cellar for 7-10 years. 94-95

14.7% abv. Dark, nearly opaque purple, extremely aromatic. Extreme power, concentration and intensity, yet plush, smooth and well mannered. This has improved a good deal since I last tasted it. Very impressive!

Good PS, a bit milder and smoother than my go-to PS, Relic. As others have mentioned it is glass-staining and a bit gritty. Pepper and spice with blueberry and blackberry to balance it out.

. Ingredients: Juice from 2 half frozen bags of Oregon wild blueberries 3 shovel fulls of hot asphalt 1 large bag of pea gravel 1 Quart Castrol 10W-40 Motor Oil Dash of Angostura Bitters
Directions: Place dry ingredients in an upright cement mixer. Slowly add wet ingredients until thoroughly combined.
Serving: Pour wine into a glass you don't care about because this wine will stain it beyond repair. Consume by itself or paired with anything off the grill.

I reached for this when a guest had brought one of the heavier Wagner cabs (1858) wanting to showcase something darker and richer but without confection. The 16 Palisades does not disappoint, with all its inky black goodness.
In 16, I noted more chalky graphite notes and chewier tannins, with less candied fruit than 15. It’s just as dark, but slightly less fruit and more structure compared to the last few vintages. One to cellar for certain!

Exceptional petite Syrah. Leathery, oakey, cedar plank notes, tart cherry. Would pair well with duck, turkey, lamb, pork.
