1988 Lindeman Pyrus Cabernet Beautiful cork, with only half a cm of travel and a little seepage further up on the side it had been lying on Straight up plenty of eucalypt and menthol character with a bayleaf herbal back bone, the tannins long since gone but this was a superb old Aussie cab!

So drinkable, very smooth, long on the palate. Clearly the optimum time for drinking was 10 years ago and the fruit has long faded, but a lovely dry well rounded wine remains. Surprisingly still plenty of dark crimson colour left, hasn't faded to brown.

Spicy, peppery, green fruit, mulberry, very well rounded. Extremely drinkable, very smooth. Surprising amount of fresh acidity, doesn't taste like a 30 year old wine. Beautifully preserved with a perfect cork, the first bottle we opened was absolutely beautiful. Amazing with lamb on a balmy Summer evening on the balcony.

Auswine offline (Trevi Restaurant, Sydney): Brick red. Lovely evolved chocolate & leather nose, with some slightly pongy vegetal characters. Tannins are very soft. Distinct acid presence – in its dotage this will will be clearly overrun by VA. Fruit is fading now, but wine still has medium body and length and is holding up OK. Pleasant older wine.

NobleRottersSydney - Langtons Classification (Darling Mills, Glebe): Mid brick red. Pungent, rather obvious developed minty aromas…and flavours. Not much tannin left here either; this seems to have softened right out and needs drinking soon, before the lack of structure causes catastrophic collapse.

This one not as good as the first of these I opened, touched washed out and oxidised but still quite drinkable
