Class in a glass. Golden in color and explosive aromas of honey biscuit apples. Beautifully complex, silky on the palate and very good length. Preferred this to the Ramonet Batard in same vintage that we drank alongside. Pure pleasure and privilege.

Reconditioned bottle. Next to the 1996 this is a little more exotic with hints of pineapple, exotic fruits, also white flowers and herbal teas. Very seductive and seems to be around its peak now.

A Year Later in Vero...; 3/17/2021-3/21/2021 (Vero Beach): By far the fanciest wine that we had during the weekend and I only took a tiny sip because I just don't get white burgundy and I feel like it should be reserved for those who really do. For many this was the wine of the weekend. For me, it was light and you could tell there was a delicacy to it which is appealing, but it came across as a hint bland. Thank goodness though as bank account would not appreciate learning to appreciate these wines.

Very full, quite a broad bottle. Ripe rich fruit with dusty soil notes. As good as it was, this bottle was slightly past peak and losing energy on the finish. Alluring spice notes on the finish. 94-95

2018 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium – Kelly, RJ, Justin and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/7/2018-11/11/2018 (Villa D’este, Lake Como): Exquisite nose displaying opulent yellow and white fruit, lemon curd, candied lemon peel, canned pear, a hint of flint, honey, crème brulee, smoke, spearmint and limestone. Perfectly integrated palate, beautifully layered sweet yellow fruit, silky and fluid, lacking acidity yet remains precise due to incredible amount of limestone mineral, and a long seamless finish with honey and spearmint at the end. It remains pure and energetic which is remarkable considering low acidity. Absolute pleasure.

What Grand Cru White wine was meant to be at 26 years old. This was wonderful, full, balanced, long and still full of fruit. The true disaster of premox is clear when you get to drink an older bottle of near perfect burgundy

From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a deep yellow center with clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose put forth acacia flowers, pear, quince, lemon custard, and some white stone.
In the mouth, this wine was refined but at the same time had huge richness, firm acids, and fantastic length.
This is absolutely delicious. However, do not expect the drama of the Batard. This is a delicate beauty that has all the class, intelligence, and sex appeal you could ask for.

From a pretty good looking bottle with a 3.5 cm fill, this wine had a deep yellow center and clear rims. The nose was tight at first and then showed a bit of SO2. After a few hours it emanated dried apricots, citrus, vanilla, white stone, and apples.
This wine was all acidity when first popped. Then, as it opened up, the super ripe fruit developed and it became quite ripe and rich. In fact, it was almost a bit over-ripe, even though you could taste the firm acidity in the background. Finally, after 4 hours of air, it all came into balance. The texture became super creamy. This wine was very classy and refined with an edge of decadent richness.
I have had better bottles in the past. Was this bottle a bit mistreated or was it bottle variation? This bottle was a bit past it’s peak but I know other bottles will last 10+ years. Substantial air is recommended to allow this wine to show its true majesty!
Deep golden. At first restrained, but opened up within 30 min. or so. Rusted nuts, butter, smoke, oak and yellow fruits, the later gaining in intensity with time. Then citrus and flowery scents and flavors. On the palate you feel the acidity is a bit sharp, but it keeps enough poise, so this is not disturbing so much. The finish is lasting, slightly adstringent and oaky. Not extraordinary but outstanding (like all Leflaives I had in the last decades), because of its elegance and exploding midpalate. Future? I would advice anyone who still has bottles of it: Drink it up if you want to have it still at plateau of maturity. If you want to watch it fade you can do this over the next years. This bottle was cellared under textbook conditions since release. Nevertheless the cork was soaked to 90%. If you ask me: Without the name and the origin it would be sold for maybe a tenth of its price, which would be barely a bargain then, but fairly priced.

Weekend with Eddie - Part 1 (Marea, New York City): If sourced correctly, ie aged properly, this has been consistent upper 90 pointers for me. A great example of the 92, quite ripe without compromising the precision and focus. Subtle yet expressive nose displaying beautiful sweet white fruits, smoke, candied lemon peel, mint and mineral. As usual, it got fresher with air. Despite missing the bright acidity, the quite is very precise due to the strong mineral expression. Lovely showing. It is still drinking wonderfully but no need to wait.

Tasting with Brice from magnum. To me this was slightly oxidized, but Brice says within bounds of normal for older whites. Very honeyed and sweet. Jura-like.
The Domaine Leflavive Chevalier Montrachet exhaled intense honey and flowers. Stainless steel and the critrus fruits with the lovely and balanced acidity, a bit bitter at the finish; long aftertaste. This 1992 wine is so wonderful.

A Tribute to Anne-Claude Leflaive (Iggy's, Hilton Hotel, Singapore): A lovely, lovely wine – this was completely en pointe and absolutely delicious - the most enjoyable wine of the night for me, if not necessarily the “best” qualitatively. This was one of the two wines from the Olivier Leflaive period that we had. I had already written-up the differences we found between these and the later Anne-Claude / Pierre Morey wines that in my tasting note on the 1990 Chevlalier-Montrachet. Again though, this seemed to have a different tenor from the more intellectual giants from the mid-1990s and 2000s with their brilliant intensity and effortless elegance – this wine was rather warmer, more generous, a bit friendlier if I could put it that way. There was such a lovely nose here – rich and honeyed, with warm yellow-fruited aromas topped off with dollops of sweet cream and mascarpone, all traced by a little tail of minerally accents. Beautiful stuff. The palate was a nice reflection of the bouquet too. It was full and generous, showing wonderfully yummy flavours of yellow fruit, honey and warm spice, then hints of butterscotch and caramel, all filling the mouth in a deliciously warm and giving embrace, with soft, perfectly integrated acidity forming a nice creamy frame on the midpalate, while also lending the wine a nice sense of clarity and focus. It had a delicious end too, with honey, peach and spice notes mingling in a long, generous finish. A beautiful wine, fill of joie de vivre. This was at peak drinking absolutely perfectly.

A memorable dinner wtih Barolis and Burgundy (Fleet Street Kitchen - Baltimore, MD): I was fortunate to source this from a European source and all the bottles have been stellar and this was no exception. A Birthday at Yann's (Flatiron, NYC): Deep gold, edge of orange. Rich, smoky, very '92 nose, hugely saline and ripe. Very, very powerful on the palate, extremely intense and full bodied; dry, saline; orange and tangerine peels, bouillon. Full throttle. Powerful. Long. From an excellent looking bottle purchased on release from a retail store, this wine looked stunning with a medium yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose screemed Leflaive given the lemon oil, crushed macaroons, apples, and white stone.
In the mouth this had a smooth and sexy texture that seemed overly plush at first. Then as the wine floated down your throat, the steely acidity came in just in time to firm things up and give it excellent length. A gorgeous wine that is drinking well now and should hold at this level for at least 10 years.

This is constantly upper 90s wine for me. This bottle is from a batch purchased in Europe from a cold damp cellar. Lemon, lime, mostly yellow fruit, flint, limestone and beeswax. This bottle shows very young, quite ripe and fat but noticeable minerality and enough acidity keeps the wine fresh. This definitely improves with air. A beautiful youthful showing.

From a pristine bottle purchased upon release, this wine showed a medium deep yellow center and clear rims. The nose was nice initially but it kept getting better and better. It displayed high- intensity green apple, creme brulee, lemon oil, and cardamom.
This wine needed a full 3 hours of air to show its best. While the fruit was very ripe and rich, the wine seemed refined and exquisitely balanced at the same time. It was intense, rich, and very long. This appears to be just coming into its drinking widow and should easily last 10+ years.
If you have this wine, please serve it blind to those who put down the 1992 vintage!

Dinner at Lampreia (Seattle, WA): Well this was a lovely bottle. Some stink and ash on the nose at first gives way to vanilla cream, mineral, and a hint of butterbrickle. Golden yellow. Hazel-nuts and mushroomy scents on the nose. Over the course of the night, the wine developed some hints of botrytis on the nose, however nothing flawed about it at all. Very full-bodied and fatm but maintaining a freshness that keeps things in balance. Very focused fruit and stylish, elegant all the way. Very long finish.Excellent. IMO this wine should be put away for another five years, as I believe that extra dimensions will develop.

Dinner at Lampreia (Seattle, WA): Well this was a lovely bottle. Some stink and ash on the nose at first gives way to vanilla cream, mineral, and a hint of butterbrickle. The palate was initially all about lime and mineral, but with more air this simply exploded. Long, penetrating, gorgeous acidity, wow, what a lovely bottle.
