This is still young but very drinkable, with dry blackberry-blueberry fruit lurking behind a layer of leathery tannin. Old-world style with new-world fruit.

Decanted. Dense black-garnet color, brightly toned. Aromas of red currant & blackberry with black tea, new cedar, menthol, clove, violets and pipe tobacco. Expressive, vivid cassis and black cherry fruit on the palate, with seamless depth of nutmeg & allspice berry, pencil shavings, cocoa dust, dark florals, paprika and crushed stone, rich and polished. Medium to full in weight, with refined density, moderate offsetting acid and fine tannins, broad and juicy, finishing with long zesty black fruit length. Late primary stage with excellent integration and intensity. Drink/hold.

An excellent effort here, and probably the best I’ve had from Calluna. Dense, silky red and black fruits; notes of cedar and graphite as well. very well rounded on the palate speaks to the integrated tannin. Yet the structure is prominent showing great ageing potential.

Medium body (13.6%) red wine. Initially not impressive but after an hour the wine opened to be excellent despite its young age. A very nice melody of dark fruit with a hint of sage and moss. Pleasant big finish with pleasant cedar highlights. This wine will age well.

Calluna Vineyards Visit: Aromas of cedar, redcurrant, leather, smoked paprika and cardamom. Complex attack, refined and stately elegant. Dense in the middle, with fine tannins and plenty of depth and complexity on the finish. Very nice.

Nose of fragrant dark fruit, violets, a hint of ash. Dense dark fruit on the palate with strong gritty tannins, muscular toned presence, long sinewy tannic finish with a winding sheet of sweet acid. Big and powerful in a fresh floral gown and without a hint of flab. Excellent with tarragon braised chicken.

The greatest Calluna I have had. Aromas of tea leaf, and some cranberry. On the palette it is immediate blackberry with tobacco leaf and slight cranberry. On the finish it is all "Cedar" wood and a small amount of tight tannic driven fruit which is totally restrained.
This is built to age and improve. I commend David and his team as this is totally better than all recent vintages.
