Purchased for $23 and tasted for #tawnytuesday. Cloudy burnt ruby in color. This was bottled in 2015 and I learned that cloudy Tawnies usually are a sign that they've been in bottle for over 2 years. Check on this one. Nose of caramel, fig and maple sugar candy. On the nose, mostly all caramel with some hazelnut notes. This is not as sweet as others, despite that maple sugar candy note on the nose. More of a dry style. Slightly shorter finish than one would like. Grade: B+

Helder rood met een iets bruinig tintje. Rozijnen, nootjes en een beetje caramel. Botttled 2016 dus ingecheckt op oogstjaar 2006. €7,73/500ml @ Chaccali in 2019.

{bottled 2016, 500ml, cork, 20%} Golden brown. Mature nose of figs and caramel, wood and white pepper. The palate follows along, seemingly very alcoholic and fumey, wood-dominated, with some of those spice and nut flavours in the background. Sits very much on the front of the tongue, with a warm, medium-dry sort of finish. It’s not bad, but not something you’d seek out.

Always one of my favorite Tawny Ports. I enjoy the 10 year over the older versions. I recently tasted a 2013 bottling and this was the 2020 and both were fantastic.

Botttled 2016 dus oogst 2006. Lekker zacht maar in de nasmaak wat scherper in de keel. Gedroogde vruchten en iets van caramel. Deze keer wel helder rood maar geen bruin tintje. Vakantiehuisje heeft ander li ht dan thuis.

An underwhelming showing, especially for a major Port House. The nose is fine, with shriveled currants, candied fruit and nuts, molasses, dates, figs, and caramel all making an appearance, while smoke lingers in the background. But wood takes center stage on the palate, in a big way, where woody, white pepper intensity expands through more woodspice on the finish. The wood-driven profile didn't speak to me. Maybe it needs lots of air.

(Bottled 2017)Pop ‘N’ Pour: colour between cherry red and ruby red, smells of raisins and almonds with a little bit of smoke in the background, light body, not that sweet, in the mouth raisins and a little bit of almonds, in the aftertaste raisins, almonds and acidity, good length (30 sec), nice, but nothing special

I consumed one or two ounces a day until the 500 ml. bottle was finished. Sort of a burnished cordovan color. Prunes, figs, and caramel toffee on the nose. On the palate, nuts mingle with fruit and honey. I enjoyed this but likely would give a higher score to the 20-year tawny. I am surprised that only 60% of CellarTracker posts indicated that they liked the wine, but it was from a very small number of people which could skew the resultsl.

2016 Port Harvest Tour; 9/18/2016-9/25/2016 (Portugal): Amber orange in color. Dark, clear appearance. Subtle cigar box and orange peel on the nose. Full-bodied, subtle orange and some light spirit. Slight nuttiness on the finish. Balanced, elegant wine.

Quite a powerful character of candied fruit and nuts, hints of wood spice and flowers, crushed red berry fruit, elegant and energetic, fresh but quite intense; good finish and length. In the lobby at The Milliken Creek Inn, Napa, California, USA.

An intense nose of caramel, dried cherries, sweet spices, and cola notes. Silky mouthfeel. Rich flavors of dark berry compote. Nice fresh fig flavors. Slightly reminiscent of Dr. Pepper in a good way. Finishes forever with dried cranberry flavors. The taste remains for minutes. A really fresh, enjoyable tawny.

Dinner at The Cliff (The Cliff, Sentosa Resort, Singapore): I really liked this - especially since it was paired with a cheese platter with two excellent blues. Fresh nose, with nuts, figs and a touch of wood varnish. Fresh palate as well, mahogany wood, dried grapes and prunes wrapped in firmish tannins. Long finish. Not the most complex of tawnys, but very nicely put together.

Pop and pour (cellar temp): Color: Garnet-ruby red with a tinge of brown/orange. Very pretty, with thick and viscous-appearing legs. Nose: You can smell this from across the room. Old world spices (strong), cedar, and a bit of wood stain-like astringency around a bit of a thin raisiny-molasses core. Palate: A little too hot, but has a nice if not complex flavor profile. The attack is slightly sweet but contains some spicy pepper notes. The midpalate is medium bodied and round, with some heat coming on and containing a cocoa and sweet raisin profile, with some cedar as well. Not quite what I expected, but pretty good. Finish: The finish is too hot now, but clearly is otherwise decent, with ground up spice taste staying on the tongue. From notes others have left, it seems the heat blows off after a few days.
Drunk over a week - Nose:After a couple days, the strength of the bouquet toned down a bit, but it was a pleasurable enough experience pouring the glass and waiting for it to warm up a bit from the fridge as its aromas filled the air. The astringency and heat had blown off, and nuttier smells began to predominate. There is still some raisin/molasses in the middle, but it's not predominant. Smells like a tawny. Held up well and was consistent after day 2. Palate: The heat has burned off, and the wine has thickened up a bit. The attack is not a spicy as before, but not as sweet as other ports I've had. Nice nuttiness, with walnuts and almonds mixed with syrupy raisin - not as weighty as other ports I've had (once again), but pleasant. The cedar tastes and smells I picked up before are gone. Finish: The finish has toned up quite nicely, losing most of its heat, adding more nuttiness, and retaining the sweet raisin. Lacks the incredible complexity that would bump it above a 90 for me, but the finish is long-lasting, going for 30 seconds or more and evolving a bit as it goes.
Not bad at all, but this comes from someone who has tried somewhere in the range of 10-20 ports. As to whether I'd buy again at this price point, I'm really not sure one way or the other.

Opened this tonight for a glass, plan to update this as the wine changes over time its opened.
Served at cellar temperature, lighter color, almost reddish. nose is nutty with a little heat. Medium bodied on the palate with an almost oloroso-like profile. Relatively dry for a tawny port with very respectable acidity. Finish is very nutty and oxidized. A slight raisin note there as well but overall at this point I'm not digging this as much as the Taylor Fladgate 10, it seems to be lacking in complexity overall, although if you can't find a good Oloroso Sherry, this might satisfy your craving. Would probably do better with a bit of stilton (but what doesn't).
A day short of two months later (6/22): Finished the bottle tonight, but had not touched it again til about a week or two ago. The heat has almost completely blown off with a much mroe typical tawny port profile. Caramel and nuts with a faint raisin (not quite as much as a I like). The sweeteness is more evident but still restrained for a tawny. So much better than before, but I still prefer the Taylor-Fladgate 10 yr for a dollar or two more. This is, however, a nice changeup, and perhaps even better with the stilton due to the more restrained sweetness.

We opened this months ago, and it kinda just languished in the back of the fridge til last night. We had family over, and after dinner with three home-made desserts, I served this as a complement. Wow. I don't know if Port can gain body and flavor after being opened, or if it has what it has when it is bottled, but this was much richer and viscuous than when it was first opened, at least as I remember it. Then, it seemed to me a bit diluted and, well, like a tawny. Now there was a very good mouthfeel with nice burnt sugar flavors that I love.. .all in all, a very nice wine that everyone seemed to appreciate (all non-wine people).
