Overall a good brunello, nice colour, well balanced tannins present but pleasant, not too long a persistence. Pity about the reduced nose, with notes of cabbage and wet carpet. With a bit of air some hints of red fruits emerge.

A Brunello infused with oak. Not integrated yet. I would not consume. In general, I find Matrojanni pretty heavy handed on oak, above all on the riserva wines and I was surprised to find all that oak also on this non-riserva bottling. Not my style. Not a refined Brunello.

Medium reddish garnet in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty, floral & herbal notes, spices, minerals & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, mulberries & plums with spices, herbs & minerals. Lingering finish. Appeared accessible at present with decanting & extended airing but has the fruit & structure to continue development with continued aging.

This is lovely. It's a wine I would normally cellar - excellent producer, excellent vintage, but found it on a wine list at a good price so jumped in with both feet. After a decant, it's drinking surprisingly well already (with food). Spicy, cherries, some plum, earthy - in short, everything we love in a Brunello. 93+, as this will get better with more age when the parts stitch together. Aged in botti of varying sizes so very little oak signature.

Tasted first fom the glass at the wine bar, the next day at the restaurant, this is sheer class. Good acidity, plenty of red fruit, excellent harmony and balance. The fruit gets darker, fuller in the glass, will holde for 10+ years. #Montalcino

Drank again 1 year later. No change from my original note. Disappointing relative to previous vintages - very soft, no big fruit Brunello bursts and no earthy finish. Thought it would be better after a year but did not happen

Montalcino 2021 Brunello Trip; 8/26/2021-9/1/2021 (Montalcino, Sienna Province, Italy): With vineyard visits finished, I hung out at the Enoteca di Piazza for some wine tasting to add to the list. 13th wine was Mastrojanni, a usual strong performer, which I was unfortunate not to visit the vineyard this year. Brown colour, strong fruity nose. Given the aroma, a surprisingly modest Brunello first taste of dark fruits- cherries, blackberries, currants, medium finish with a medium linger. Some early tannins dry - but no earthy flavours yet. Not as strong as pervious years.

Very fresh and with lots of fruit on the nose - medium plus tannins and acidity - but actually already quite nice integrated - so pleassed about the balance. Cllearly also some spices - happy to start at 92 - its a great wine but still very young 92.

Clear medium light red. Earthy, herbal black cherry fruit with a bit of campfire. Dry earthy cherry flavours and a dry slightly hot mid weight finish.
On the dry and elegant side. Should put on a bit of weight.

Janselijn Wines & Verkerk Wines Tasting (Restaurant The Lobby Fizeaustraat, Hotel V, Amsterdam, NL): Trade tasting, brief note. Autumnal, structured, firm acidity, energetic but lots of stuffing, big tannins, classical style, for the long haul.

Good, not exceptional. Lacks complexity. Young?
