  • Beautiful, intense and complex nose. Petroleum, zippy lemon, green apples, some lime and melon/yellow stone fruit.

Similar complex fruitiness along with a nice minerality of stone along with touch of honey on finish. Real depth and concentration of fruit.

This is doubtlessly still very young; I can see what people say when they say that in its youth there isn't a huge difference between Trimbach's CFE and CSH, but I am pleased to say that this still had the edge in terms of concentration and complexity. Would love to revisit this in a couple of decades!

Bottle was from the BB&R Family Reserves

  • Opened at Caprice in HK for the Jean Trimbach x Egon Muller Celebration Dinner by the winemakers themselves. Slow-oxed since 3pm and poured at around 9:30.

Served from Jerobam! The class of Clos Ste. Hune really showed here - absolutely gorgeous dry Riesling and probably the best I've had outside of Keller's GGs. Fresh, crisp, floral, fruity and petrol with beautiful balance, precise acidity and a long finish. Great juice.

Unfortunately my experience with Clos Ste Hune to date has been mixed - some bottles turn out to be more oxidised than they should. But this was absolutely spot on. Can be enjoyed now but CSH can age well - will be interesting to see how this develops.

Very dense, tight, packed in the nose, lime tones, pear and green apple, some spice notes, some red apple with time and air in the glass
Palate showing immense strength, power, with fruit and extreme acidity, opening like peacock on the tongue, mineral, citrus, pear, med body, long finish

  • This was very enjoyable at this stage but really not the standout wine I had expected. Needs more cellaring for sure.

  • Tasted all too briefly at a restaurant, but this is definitely a world class dry riesling.

  • (Blind tasting)
Full and rich nose. Immediately recognizable Riesling nose. Petrol, ripe apple, honey and minerals in loads. Very, very Riesling - but not vulgar or over the top. Fantastic, clean and pure.
Fullish palate. Powerful and rich. Fat and broad. But with a very good acidic spine. Lush fruit and petrol that is not overwhelming. Melon and almost tropical fruit notes. So long and with splendid grip.
The pure definition of high class Alsace Riesling. At last: a Riesling that trumps 1990 Trimbach Cuvée Fredric Emile as one of the best Riesling's I've tasted. Drink or hold for 5-20 years.

  • Extremely generous pull by Ramon. Pale yellow in color and quite young, but loved the heavy petrol on the nose with the precise white stone fruits and lemon on the palate. Reminded me of white Burg, in some ways, but the nose and acid brought me back to Riesling. Enjoyed the waxiness on this, as well. Paired too well with Sichuan food and also stood strong by itself (no surprise).

  • Inordinately young, and showing more potential than anything else. This does remind me slightly of 2016 white Burgundy with a relative lack of structure, but the saving grace here is the natural acidity that riesling provides. A tropical nose, with hints of pear and a little almond as well. On the palate, like I said, this feels less structured than better vintages of this wine, and this is certainly more mineral-intense, to the point you feel some bitterness. Very concentrated, with a rich texture on the palate. I do wish this was more racy and less oily, but as with most bottles of Clos Ste. Hune, a truly impressive wine.

  • A beast but so young. Petrol nose. Needed long decant for fruit to show.

  • Complex and fine, with subtle whiffs of smoky mineral, lime, guava and peach. It has such great volume and intensity, filling the mouth with flavour but carrying no excess weight. It is fruit sweet, but dries off, thanks to serious structural chew. The finish is long and expansive.

  • Best Riesling I’ve ever had. Crisp and refreshing acidity, lime zest, green apple, pineapple, dried apricot, and hawthorn.
