Buena presencia. Conviene decantar.

The nose was a delightful floral bouquet but the wine was still harbouring a decent mouthful of tannin with the fruit somewhat a sideshow. It was all sufficiently integrated, not jarring, but the overall conclusion was of an austere drink.

certainly tasted the prune that was mentioned in some other reviews... So take that sweetness into account in your pairings. We had paella and it overpowered the dish. Fruit pretty much dominated the wine. Was really nice and full bodied. Priorat makes some hard core wines!

Licorice, dark sour cherry and red fruit, dust nose
Fruit leads quietly and builds toward the finish, tannins still fairly aggressive and the acidity was vibrant. Darkest wine of group at taberna de haro Brookline

Stunning showing. Off vintage be damned! Nose sings with layers of red and blue fruit, black minerals and spice. Palate is full bodied with rich fruit and loads of earth and mineral. Juicy, round fruit, long and persistent with the stoniness and mineral character I associate with this region. Terrific stuff. Best bottle I've had ... by far.

Feel a bit let down by this wine so am downgrading after two additional bottles. I now detect a shy note of raisins, which I don't like, followed by candied sweetness, which I like even less. The components seem at odds with one another. Didn't pick up on these weaknesses earlier - wilful neglect, I suspect - because it was a Clos Mogador, and I was awed by the reputation. Would be OK as a 15 quid wine - and enjoyable at that price for the nice touch of herbs, incipient savoriness and rounded Priorat mouthfeel. Just a touch boring, if you really want to know.

Nose has black fruit with a touch of iron filings. On the palate the tannins are robust but not distracting, and there's a nice note of French herbs coming through. There's a welcome savoriness here (compared to my first bottle), backed by acidity. A decent finish. Might get better, with slightly deepening savory flavors. What's good: That herbal/savory note. What's not: Modest nose.

Had right beside Mas Doix Salanques and this comes across as very mineral and earthy, with a more powerful tannic grip riding higher than the fruit on the palate. But the bottle was just opened. We will see where it goes.

Tricky wine to review as it was good but probably drying out a bit. Lots of dried red fruit, cedar and cocoa dust ending with pretty dry tannins. Probabky was better a couple of years ago.

Consumed over two nights. Was quite nice on both nights, but probably ideal at the end of night one. Nose has dusty minerals, dry chocolate and black fruit. Palate is chewy with medium bodied fruit. Typical but definitely not as rich or big as more ideal vintages. One for near term (2-3 years) consumption.

Full nose has chocolaty minerals and dark fruit. Palate is full-bodied with fleshy black fruits. Medium-full on the mid-palate into a gritty, spicy finish. Drinking at peak. Thinner on night two. Given the vintage, I don't intend to hold for more than a couple years.

2002 Clos Mogador Priorat (Spain, Catalunya, Priorat) (Spanje, Catalunya, Priorat) Kleur: Geconcentreerd robijnrood, nog wel met een paars vleugje. Aroma / bouquet: Gemiddeld expressief, subtiel en elegant. Wat zwart fruit, vooral bramen. Mint. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Smaak / Afdronk: 15 + Algemeen / potentieel: 7 = 89/100

Completely agree with previous tasting notes. Utterly great Spanish red, our favorite Spanish red thus far. Enjoyed with ood friends neighborbill and friends with steak dinner. Very dark red, well balanced and very smooth, good mouthfeel with excellent long aftertaste and lingering palate. Very bold, spicy and smoky nose with flavors of terroir, tar, smoke and red fruit and developing white pepper on palate. Highly recommend this wine.

Seemed to be pretty tannic for the level of fruit. The fruit may be fading slightly. Still pretty good, but I'd recommened finishing these up, as well as any other 2002 Priorats.

Somewhat tannic and tight, but very approachable. Licorice, crystallized fruit, minerals make a compelling bouquet. Chewey texture and quite nice. Should hold for a while and possibly get better after a year or two.

Priorat Vertical / Horizontal (Rios d' Sudamerica - Chicago, IL): High toned nose of dark fruits, smoke, and bubble gum. Medium palate is softer than the 00 and 01. Licorice, blackberry, chocolate and minerals. This is quite nice and ready-to-go today. Some improvement possible but why not drink now?

Medium-bodied wine that is dark magenta in color. On the nose, dark cherries and vegetal notes. On the palate, kirsch and vanilla on an average 20-second finish. This wine is a bit light up front.

Seattle Tasting Group does Priorat (Bellevue, WA): Char, oak, some coffee, again with the raspberry, strong vitamin. Very tight, tannic, not giving, getting more friendly with time in the glass. A sweet core. Simpler than the other vintages.

January 2006 Methuselah Party (Regan & Glenn McCrary's Home): Not the clearest wine, a touch of cloudyness in the dark brick color. Slightly tart when first tasting, a bit heavy on the acids. Not as well balanced as expected. The heavy acids in the wine paired well with walnut/cheese canapés. Maybe needs more time for the wine to become better integrated?

Deep purple center, tending to reddish purple at the edge.
This was a difficult wine to evaluate. It is probably a bit too young yet, and presented closed. I also detected a hint of cork in the nose, which came and went, so that may have effected results as well. After 1 to 1 1/2 hours it opened up more. Nose of cocoa, lavender, mountain herbs, toasty oak, licorice, black fruits (plums) and strong balsamic notes. It was lighter on the tannins than I had expected -- they present light to medium, with a good acidic grip and medium body.
My feeling is that with a couple more years in bottle this could get quite a bit better.

<Harvest Vine - ENY , Shannon> Tried to order the '01. Server brought the '02 and said they were out and 'everyone prefers the '02' and would 'give the '02 to us for the price of the '01' ($15 less - around $105.) I wish I would've opted for the '99 that provided immense pleasure on the last visit. This had neither the concentration, complexity or general interest/enjoyment level. This wasn't showing very well (in the 90's) until an 1.5+ hours opened. I wish I couldve started sipping this wine at the 2hour mark (when we were finishing it.) Nose and palate were just starting to show some promise and not make me regret acquiescing to the server's suggestion. Late in the evening the nose was showing rasperry jam, floral notes and some chocolate and espresso. Palate had a nice helping of sweet fruit, and a long enjoyable finish, but lacked the depth and complexity of the '99. Excellent meal and company. Very enjoyable wine -- but not worth the price of admission and not up to the standard set by the '99.
