Moncur Syrah/Shiraz (Bistro Moncur, Sydney): Polished, ripe black fruits; plums, cherry, berry, sweet spice, cream. Juicy, tangy, fruit a little sharper, almost crunchier, on the palate. Tannins are drying, slightly chalky , persistent. Hmm.

Absolutely delicious. Bursting with red fruit. My first bottle of McRae Wood. Will definitely invest in more of this and other vintages for the cellar.

Caramel, liquorice and cherries. Complex with many aromas on the nose. Taste of mulberry and cherries. A somewhat bitter finish, but after an hour started to soften. Would recommend at least an hour decanted.

The previous note on CellarTracker mentions caramel and eucalyptus, so hard to get this out of my head , so sure I’ve had that combination before plus a good amount of smoke , ex the BBQ anyway Colour good depth , inky, bright red , fading to pink on the edge 15/15 Nose , like I said caramel, eucalyptus and charry smoke from the BBQ , grilled meat, followed by red and black fruits mulberry blackcurrent blood plum , dark cherry , olive , oak spice vanilla and coconut, chocolate, mocha , liquorice 28/30 Palate full bodied intense fruit flavours red fruits dark cherries, blackberry mulberry , rich and luxurious tannins , super mouthfeel , concentrated flavours 42/44 Overall The Armagh’s little brother , beautiful drink now , all the flavours from the nose , rich ,Luscious , super long finish , 10/11

Lovely nose of caramel and eucalyptus. Palate is savory, obvious for me is the classic Clare mint and eucalypt, though it is not overpowering. Tastes young even now, tight and astringent in back palate.

This sits in the middle, price wise, of Jim Barry’s three very different styled shiraz. The fruit is riper, less floral than The Lodge, though thankfully only a smidge higher in alcohol (14%). There is more oak but unlike The Armagh it’s not new/prominent.
For me this is the best drinking, also perhaps most complex (or at least less of a caricature).
Drinking rather well now. Which perhaps is an advantage of old oak? It was a half bottle.

Negociants Australia New Release Tasting 2019: Mint, redcurrant, liquorice and cherry. Nicely savoury style on the palate, good length with plenty of youthful flavour and potential.

Gosh, cold bottle from cellar, I suspect that tasted blond I’d have picked this as a fine Rioja.
14%, screwcap.
