Giant Pinot, Peaking, full bodied, total ripeness, drink now. Rose petal, blackberry, lavender, plum, spice, huge. Drank with ramp pesto and duck legs. Decanted one hour. Will not get better.

Decanted four hours. Red plums, dusty red bricks and damp leaves on the nose. Leads with dark cherry and spiced strawberry, adding cocoa and juniper spice through the finish. The fruit is darker - it’s a great match for the fall - but still soft and velvety, with a subtle acid core. Very nice.

This is good. Bought a few bottles at a Soter wine dinner and they this was clearly the best of the he wines on offer. Finally opened a bottle last night with mushroom risotto and I was very impressed. The wine is silky smooth with plus of fruit. Ready to drink but may even improve over time?

With more time in the wine cooler this vintage continues to rate a 94 in my book. Smooth, elegant, full of berries and cherries without being too powerful, with a light hint of licorice in the finish. It’s just delightful.

Bright blue and darker fruits with stout structure and an excellent finish. Still seems young and almost primary, despite its age. Developing nicely and can improve further, assuming proper storage. Bravo Soter.

Very happy that this was consistent with my tasting at the winery 2 years ago. Peppery sinews are bound together with hints of dark chocolate, cassis and something else that I can’t put my finger on. Lots of energy and acidity on the palate. This will evolve and be more and more interesting. Really love Soter’s wines year in and year out.

This is a gold standard Pinot. Dark berries and cherries. Full bodied, smooth and elegant with lingering finish and fine tannins. Much better wine than many that cost more.
At the winery -- This is great; ready to drink now or let it grow over the next 8 - 10 years. A little pepper in the background, beautiful currant nose, provencal herbs on the palate. Really delicious.

Oregon Pinot: The Mineral Springs Ranch is much more than a vineyard - while its 240 acres contain 40 acres of vines, the rest is used for orchards, vegetable and grain growing, oak groves and meadows. The MSR Pinot Noir is vinified with 30% whole cluster and receives an extended maceration of 30 days. It spends twelve months in French oak barrels (40% new). Nose: On opening - Black cherry, blackberry and plum, with a hint of cedar. With time it showed more earthy tones, along with cola and black cherry. Palate: On opening - very backward, showing ripe fruit and brawny tannin. With time, black cherry, plum and quite powerful. Chewy texture, still quite backward and unyielding. The wine shows good structure, with spicier, more mineral tones toward the back palate. Alcohol is present here, needing more time to integrate. Overall: this was one of the more backward wines in the group, needing patience and a good nap in the bottle. It is on the riper, heftier side of the spectrum, but without the lushness - kept tight by its brisk acidity. I would give it at least five years of aging.

Classics Pinot with rich dark berries and cherries. Tannins are there but not overpowering. A hint of licorice in the finish. Excellent wine.

Very nice and rich and full in mouth; blackberry, some spice, a decent amount of tannin lingering. (Notes not detailed in restaurant).

Wine Tandems Night (Sets of Mini-Verticals) (The Grand Room at Industrial Eats, Buellton, CA): A really impressive showing, with layered red and dark berries well complemented by floral and spice notes. I loved the texture as well as the precision of this wine. Significant upside for those who can be patient too.

Delicious now, give it a few more years to open up and it could become a show stopper.
