Last of the case, compared to prior notes the nose is now far more reticent but the fruit is still glorious, silky mouthfeel with some complex subtleties of camphor and orange zest peeking through. Fiercely tannic- so much so you absolutely need food to drink it. For me this is going to be a long-lived LN and could end up competing with many entry level Barolos given the structure on show here. Edit: day 2 the tannins are far more integrated and there are more hints of spice on the palate. Confirms this is one to age a good bit further.

I cannot add anything more than LEGAREJM LIKES THIS WINE who nailed it. Lovely entry easy to drink Barolo from a master while you wait for the big boy Barolos from Vajra to mature.

This is a quite solid, pleasant, if not particularly great, vintage of this wine. This was very open and giving from the start but closed up a bit over time. May yet benefit from a year or two in bottle. I enjoyed it but expect '18 and '19 to be superior.

2nd Langhe in 2 days, and the two are at both extremes -it looks like. (Vajra vs Pira & Figli)
This Vajra is very approachable, I am not under the impression that it will age very long. If i had other bottles i would be drinking them in the next 2 years.
Its looks very much like a pinot noir, Has vegetebal notes to the nose, Intense sour cherry, light tanins well balenced with acidity.
It was a pleasant wine to drink, not complex. This is why im giving 87pts.

GV nebbiolo from one of the best producers that you can drink relatively early. Slightly better than expected from a fairly difficult vintage: wish I got the 2016 in time but I would buy the 2017 again anyway...or wait for the 2018.

Blind tasting varietals (Leo's place, Haberfield): Served blind. Cherry, a little cream, sweet spice, a slight herbaceous note - almost tobacco leaf. medium plus intensity acidity and tannin which is quite course, cherry, a little spice. Nice. I called young Chianti Riserva Sangiovese

A typical entry-level but very well-made nebbiolo, for a good price. Floral perfume and fruity, cherries, light notes of strawberries, very light leather and tobacco notes. Refreshing acidity, nice mouth covering texture and soft tannins. Very well balanced!

Very floral. Cherry and strawberry. Smooth. Fairly typical Nebbiolo. Goes well with food. Drinking well now and probably will for a couple more years or so.

Classic Nebbiolo nose of cherry and rose. Balsamico quality on the palate, medium-full weight, soft and accessible but with significant density. A good Langhe Nebbiolo for drinking over the short to midterm.

Lovely wine. Still showing some grapey, primary fruit over the tannins. Fine to drink now for an interesting look at this wine, but should age quite well.

still young but it shows its potential even if some youngness defects are present. Red ruby a little transparent and tipical rose / red fruits nose of nebbiolo; here some alcool is out of the texture. enjoying mouth, fresh, red fruits, tannis are very strong right now. medium to long lenght. to drink in 3 years, it will improve a lot!

Strawberry and cherry with violet floral nose. Light body and fruit forward. Simple and straightforward wine but in nice and food friendly way. Paired well with lightly sauced pasta or pizza.

Tasted with Giuseppe Vajra at Fausto at the CAC. Hart & Cru food pairing event, Cincinnati. Nov. 11, 2019.
AHHH! It was pointed out to me that this note originally rated the wine at "56". I think that was a rating-slider malfunction when I posted - or I had tasted too much wine (but how is THAT possible?). In any event, the wine is a 90. Beautiful Nebbiolo, very approachable - leaning toward Barbaresco vs. Barolo
Red fruit & anise nose. Strawberry, raspberry, and cherry and a little of that anise. Good acidity & pretty good length. Good value Nebbiolo with a little room to improve given its youth, but it’s ready now.

Intentionally light bodied and fruit forward. Appealing red berry notes, including candied strawberry and raspberry. Great acid, light tannin, appealing vivacity and lift. Mostly straightforward, yet of high 'less-is-more' quality. Likely to pair with a broad range of foods, including seafood.

Lip-smackingly quaffable and joyful, if a bit on the simpler side. Nicely balanced, gentle-ish tannins, pretty florals, sappy red fruit and a handful of dry earth.

Beautiful clean ruby. Lifted floral nose. Initial tasting gives an impression of lightness, but there is a fine tannin structure giving the wine a backbone. Very enjoyable. Will be interesting to see how this develops; the problem will be leaving my remaining bottles alone.

Floral with fresh nebbiolo fruit. Violets and a little sweet tart to the fruit. Linear, steely, and clean with good acidity balance and freshness. Firm tannins for langhe nebbiolo. Very good

When Thomas Jefferson came to Barolo he wrote "the wines are as dry as claret, sweet and lingering like Maderia and fresh like CHampagne." Hence the JC, which is not this.
THey don't want to pump up the muscules of Nebbiollo. They want the innocents of nebbiolo. Giuseppe notes you want it to smell like the pommauce of Nebbiolo and this is it. He feels like they got something that i missed.
Aromatics. Smelling the glass reminded me. Aromatics on it. Fresh and delightfully aromatic. And crunchy back end as well.
20 days of skin contact so the tannins all come from that. THey completely destemmed. And apparently they work to hand destemmed completely, including all the jacks. ANd so no sense of green and a gentle sense of tannin.

Initially popped and poured but proved a little closed so splash decanted and consumed. This was disappointing based on my previous recollections - lacked the stuffing if you will and slid into the land of indifference. I was expecting more grippy tannins and juicy acidity backed by potpourri, liquorice and a little cherry instead I got a bit more cherry and a little less structure. Hmm

2h air. Medium Ruby color. Cherry raspberry, chocolate, tar and red licorice. Vibrant red fruit and fine-grained tannins on entry. Cliff-edged with a muscular finish. Very young, good typicity. Needs time.

Cellarhand 20th Anniversary Tour 2019 V2 (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): slight cherry, plums, pot pourri and some alcohol spice. On the palate it's got massive drying tannins and juicy acidity with liquorice joining the flavours of the aromas of the nose. Not massively long but pretty good. I feel the word typicity tugging at my sleeve.

Here we go atruffling... (aka Piedmont... and Veneto); 11/16/2018-11/30/2018 (Alba, Guarene, Modena, Barolo, La Morra, Lake Garda .....): For many other producers it feels like the Langhe Nebbiolo is made of the leftover grapes after they have considered what they want for their barolo. Here there is a much broader set. They draw from nebbiolo across Langhe (not just the barolo region) and tend to focus on the vines that are <10 years old. within the barolo vineyards. Leads to a little bit more sweetness. High fruit. It's a bit softer. While there is tannin, it's not as pronounced as in other wines from the region. Something that again would pair well with a more simple set of dishes.
