  • Delicate, wispy fruit, red cherry, raspberry, cinnamon, game, fragrant. Lovely now. Not profound but satisfying, scratching the itch. No 2004 problems.

  • PopnPour, tasted over 3 hrs
-nearly semi-translucent ruddy dark red moderate bricking
-expressive faded red fruit beetroot stewed tomato herbal mature elements
-med acidity, med/med- weight though moderately concentrated mid-palate of earthy cherry sousbois spice, med/med- fine tannins
-the gorgeous complex Truchot aromatics are on full display, nicely showcases characteristics of the producer, vintage and place, mature but no hurry, while this isn't quite as amazing as the '04 Clos de la Roche or Gevrey Combottes it is still another stellar example of the vintage

  • Loved this wine from day one. It's still mostly the same. My last bottle had shown some hints of green but this one is clean. The thing that made this wine so satisfying was always that it had the taste of a mature wine even though it was young, complete with the funk. There is actually less funk now, though. This bottle had really clean fruit (winy fruit, not fruity fruit though), very savory with a stony minerality underneath. My last bottle. You'll be missed. :(

  • No sign of pyrazine. Aromatic, elegant, delicate, long, and in a perfect place right now. Outperformed my already high expectations.

  • Still a beauty. Interesting, the barnyard funk is all gone now. It is still very earthy, but more stony than anything. In fact the sense of solidity is really striking; out of material that feels almost incorporeally weightless somehow it solidifies in the mouth like quick setting concrete, and takes on a truly large scale. Where did all this come from? It's still unmistakeably Truchot but I'm not sure I would have called this as the Sentiers; feels almost more Gevrey/Morey and could certainly pass for GC. Are *anyone's* '04s as ravishing as Truchot's? I actually like this better than the '02 Sentiers from a few months back.

  • My first 2004 Burg. I tried my best to find scents that were green, mean, pyrazine, metallic, putrid, chemical, like a sichuan pepper, or otherwise flawed, tainted, or disgusting.

    Couldn't do it.

True, the nose here was not typical burgundian pinot, but smelled lean and less-than-fully ripe. The palate was similarly flavored, lean, cool, with good acidity, and hints of red fruit.

The texture makes this wine: cool satin.

  • This was really excellent. A bit of funk on the nose, animal, then a super plush velvet mouthfeel. Still loads of sweet fruit and a bit of tannin. It is so refreshing to find a wine with such a beautiful light color pack such a wallop. Very good balance and long finish. Great wine.

  • Truchot and others (Chez Blach): Lean, but not at all mean, this was light and fresh, with a pleasing acrid edge, fine gamey fragrance - a delight

  • I fell in love with Burgundy on account of fragrances like this, and it seems they've gotten fewer and further between even over the last few years. Maybe that's why this wine seems like a time capsule. The aromatic spectrum combines gingerbread cookie dough and other sweet baking scents with a raunchier funk reminiscent of game and, yes, a little goutte de merde. Fruit-juice drinkers who think every flavor or scent in a wine ought to evoke some kind of berry will not appreciate this wine. On the palate, it's classic Chambolle-Musigny, plush and glossy in texture and so feminine and alluring; the feeling as it sinks into the palate is like slowly sinking into a waterbed, feeling simultaneously cradled and weightless. And this is indeed a wine that you feel more than one that you taste; while the fruit is pure and sappy, what's overwhelming about it is the instantaneous sense of calm and serenity that overcomes me as it sinks in, a little high delivered with each sip.
