Rich, dense wine, that somehow reminds of liquid Christmas pudding. A mouthful of crunch black fruit - blackberry and fig, a some Mourvèdre-like funk, bit of toast spice, and a firm sinewy spine of acid and ripe tannin. The less tannic St Emilion comparison is somewhat apt, but the bramble berry breaking like the sun through some spring storm clouds through says zin through and through. Long finish, but with a hit of heat as well. Fantastic now, perhaps even with a little bit of upside in another year or two.

Dark fruited nose, of plum, blackberry and a kind of generic grape, has a round mouthfeel, this reminds me a bit of a petite sirah but without the tannins, back of the bottle says that it's from vines planted in the 1880s, so I'm guessing it's a field blend. Don't get as much bramble and red fruited notes as I would expect from a zinfandel. Occasionally get some green notes, not herbal though, maybe eucalyptus? Reminds me a bit of right bank bordeaux without the tannins. Was very enjoyable and easy to drink, low acidity, not very tannic with a medium length finish. Don't notice any oak influence. Nice!
Quick decant and drank on its own. Pungent nose with burnt black currant, hints of camphor, and oak. Blackberry, black currant, black pepper, and smoked meats on the palate. Chilled-out tannins, black fruits, and some zippy acidity leading into peppercorns, minerals, and oak at the end. Dark, brooding, and a bit closed.

Purple in color. 14.5% ABV. Sublime nose of red and black fruits, plums and flowers. Medium body with medium acidity. Rich and plush. Approachable and well balanced. Black cherry, raspberry, blood orange and pepper on the palate. Delicious and easy to drink but I was hoping for a bit more. Best over the next 2-4 years.

Decanted for 90 minutes before first tasting. Initially plum and white pepper. After another 90 minutes, more dark fruit emerges. Good gripping tannins on the back palate, with a long finish. Nice depth. The additional time really made a difference with this wine.

Nose of pomegranate and cranberry. Dark cherry, tea, malt, and citrus. Lean, tart, old-world style wine. Like a chocolate with dark orange. Subdued fruit. Not one of my favorite efforts from this producer or vineyard. I know the drinking window says it will go for 8 more years, but I have some skepticism as to what will remain at that point.
As others have noted, upon popping it showed dense dark fruits. I understand what brooding means in a wine context now. Decanted for two hours and served, finding that it had opened up nicely and was quite approachable. Very nice.

This is a very savory and structured vintage. Green and brooding, the fruit tones are only just poking through this bottle, shows black pepper with air. I've had mixed experiences with this vintage, but if I had more I would keep for another couple years.

Lovely perfumed spicy blackberry and black cherry notes that give way to black pepper, mocha, leather, smoke, and stony minerality. Ripe fruit but structured, with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Very drinkable now but should age well.

Large scaled but balanced, with big brawny tannins. Darker fruit, lovely red fruit highlights. Really fills out on the back end. Needs some time to not together. Nice balance despite the scale.

Wine Country; 1/31/2019-2/3/2019 (California): Tasted at the Bedrock tasting room in Sonoma. Wow, the 2017 Bedrock Pagani Ranch is a total knockout. This Zin-based field blend has incredible structure to go the distance. This was everyone's favorite of the Zin-based blends we tried. This is already drinking well, but should age nicely.

Good Wine with an Exciting Super Bowl (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): Walkaround tasting. Intense concentration with intense all black fruits supported by roasted meat notes. Good enough balance keeps this going.

Some rough tannins, worthy of more age. Prune and blackberry fruit. Heavy. Tasty.
These heavy huge bottles are a crime.
