Grapefruit, lemon, maybe even some orange fruit. A little caramel on the finish. None of the butteriness I so dislike in Chardonnay. Like many Kutch wines, this shows the restraint and finesse more associated with the best French wines. Overall, though, a bit too muted and overwhelmed even by shrimp scampi. Best enjoyed alone.
4/26/2024 Pop ‘n’ pour. Lemony—in a good way. A little tart on the finish so I probably should have let it sit for an hour. Old world in its composition, without the oak and butterscotch of many CA Chards.

Second time of tasting, I am so impressed with this wine. I have had a good few white French Burgundys recently, and this out drinks a lot of them at a fraction of the price. If tasted blind, I would guess a Grand Cru Chablis from one of the prestige estates. It does benefit from decanting and serving at cellar temperature.

This is a real revelation, and is very Burgundy in its make-up, and if tasted blind, I would place it as from a prestige French domaine. In a perfect spot, it has great balance and precision with lemon and butterscotch with citrus hints of orange.

This vintage is still going strong; however, I am not going to wait to consumer my remaining bottles this summer as I think it would be best to enjoy them now.
As with my last bottle, it is showing a lot of creamy citrus fruit, some butterscotch, nice minerality and good acidity. It has a full mouthfeel and long finish.

American theme at Jungle Boy: This was quite Burgundian with its restraint and being made in a leaner style, but thought that the fruit profile was ripe and a little exotic, albeit balanced by a huge amount of acidity. Still rather coiled, it felt like it only showed a glimpse of its potential with the amount of material that was packed underneath. Excellent.

Kutch Verticals--Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (My House): Orange blossom flower aroma. Citrusy and spicy, with toast, pear, apple and a lemon drop hard candy note. Like the 2016, this has the spiciness of the 2015, but not the concentration of the 2015. Instead, this is a leaner, high acid finish, which one person in the group called sauvignon blanc-like.

Reading other notes, I thought it was time to drink my remaining few bottles of the 2017 Kutch. But, based on one last night, there is no great rush. This one was fresh and lively, plenty of fruit. At least 2-3 more years life based on this.

I continue to enjoy bottles of this vintage with its lively citrus fruit, minerality and a tinge of butterscotch. However, as with my last bottle, I don’t feel that this wine/vintage is meant for long term cellaring. In fact, I would recommend that it be consumed in the next year. It seems to me that the fruit is starting to fade a bit.
Opened 2 hours ago, listed at 12.25% ABV. This bottle shows a smoky kinda of reduction on the aromatic, perhaps accented by some toasty old barrel, too. Generous and softer-toned, with a good punctuation of lemon and apple. There is a hint of something tropical in this vintage, a light pineapple but moreso banana, then finishing with a toasty impression and the lemony shading. Once the the wine completely finishes, some of the minerality/slate follows joined by a creaminess. If you're getting my gist here, I continue to think that the 2017 vintage of Kutch SC Chard is one for now, the short-term. This is pleasurable and for those who like the less acidic years for Kutch, this is that wine so drink now over the next few years.

Buttery yet balanced, hay, subtle orchard fruits and later a touch of white flowers; didn't get the reduction noted in some other reviews. Tasted like Californian chardonnay but one made with a decent amount of restraint. Enjoyable on it's own but much better with a simple roast chicken.

This is fruit I believe sourced from the Bohan vineyard.... This is pretty high up at 1300-1500 feet. I'm sure this is a major factor on how fresh this is!!
Golden yellow. Very focussed with a central refreshing acid core. Yellow citrus driven. Lemon/yuzu, but not overly fruit driven as there is a savoury edge with pith or peel. The is some light stone and orchard fruit on the nose and palate as it starts to open and warm up a little (I did decant). Excellent length. Very restrained style. Mineral note but subtle. Medium body. Really mouthwatering and lovely as an aperitif.

This was a beautiful Chardonnay which we enjoyed today by the pool with grilled mahi mahi with a lemon garlic wine sauce. A restrained chard that stylistically was exactly what we love. It reminded me of some recent Maresh Dundee Hills Chardonnays. Lots of lemon citrus with a slight vanilla creamy note/ hint of oak. A tad of mineral and sea breeze with palate cleansing acidity. Fantastic stuff! I need to buy more next release.

Didn't love this. Too green. I can see the style that are going for and it works in other Kutch chardonnays I have tried - but in this and in 2017 it doesn't have the complexity or the peach fruit character I would like

Clear, light yellow color with a watery rim. The nose is clean and intense with pear and Granny Smith Apple but no tropical notes that I can discern. The palate follows the nose and adds some lemon, and with air, some butterscotch notes subtly emerge. There is ample acidity to give this medium-bodied wine some verve. The finish highlights the green apple aspects. Overall, this paired beautifully with risotto because of its balanced acidity, and the prosciutto stuffed chicken brought out the apple and butterscotch notes even more. I am not surprised to hear people say Jamie’s chardonnays are some of the best coming out of California.

Pop and pour and tasted with a slight chill. Light golden yellow color. Nose offers some white stone fruit and a slight tropical fruit note. This is a bit bigger and rounder in profile than what I expected. I was expecting a higher level of acidity and tension. This leans more towards a round, fuller bodied wine with a richer mouthfeel. Still enjoyable, with good white peach, pear notes and sufficient acidity to give it lift.

Bottle opened last night, retasting today without food. The dominant player in the wine at this stage of its development is lemon. It has a brisk, bright quality that infuses the palate and finish. There's also some grapefruit here, and a light impression of the apple (this bottle shows more green than yellow) that I found in the bottle this past July, but it's a support player to the lemony citrus. Finishes with notes of fennel, dried pineapple, citrus and a touch of creaminess to round out the texture. For the palate who may like some glycerine, butter or oak, this ain't your wine. And for all of what this wine is not, these are the reasons I enjoy Jamie's Chards. In sum, this bottle is more chiseled than the July 2019 bottle, a citrusy wine that is bright, leaner toned and delicious.

My best bottle yet (of three). This is so good—with concentrated but restrained yellow fruit, bright acids, and dry extract—and it seems to be improving. Just a hint of tropical fruit. Silly bargain.
The notes are getting spars after running thought every Chardonnay in the Kutch family. Yellow fruited and zippy with green pear at the finish. This note sucks.

July 2019 Kutch Visit (Jamie's Pad in SFO): Drank as part of a complete vertical of all Kutch Chards (14-17, to include Trout Gulch). Yellow apple, mint, some toast and supple, with what I recalled being the least of the 5 Chards in terms of perceived acidity. Spice, green apple, some lemon but not the lemon intensity of the 2015....retasted the following morning from leftovers at room temo, my notes from yesterday reflect the wine pretty well as it tastes today. Like the 2017 Trout Gulch, this seems a little more approachable than the other Chards. What I notice this morning is some yellow apple (which for me usually means a softer, less acidic impression of the fruit), some stone fruit, like a peach or nectarine. As the wine finishes, there is a mandarin orange kind of citrus that gently fills in. I believe for the 2017 whites, people will find them more gentle and less intense, which I do like but I will drink my 2017s before the earlier vintages,
2nd bottle this year, brought by Paul to dinner. Didn't take notes but my recall was a bottle that was dominated by green apple earlier on, then picked up more tension and even some coil to the finish as it aired on the table and in the glass. Acidity was prominent too, a clean, pure version of Chard.

A master-class in CA Chard. Kutch’s ‘14 Santa Cruz is my favorite CA Chard probably ever. This doesn’t reach those heights but it’s really not far off. A bit more ‘Californian,’ this is a touch more tropical and a touch fatter—maybe not quite as electric—but it’s still impeccably made with concentrated fruit, zingy acidity, and superb balance. No one is making better new-world Chard than Jamie.

Drank last night, really expressive floral and tropical notes on the nose. Pineapple, mango, and gravel on the first impression with a little bit of length for such a young wine. Incredibly fresh and focused.
Night 3 - complex. Deep tropical notes with a bit more toastiness. Tangerine, green citrus cotton seed and a touch of almond. Convinced this is the best and most agable us chard. Simply fantastic.

Damn, first TN. Cool. Jamie put this into Falltacular 2019 and this was my first wine of the day. Light toast aromatic and what seems like a kiss of oak in the wine too. Lightly creamy with a deep cut of lime zest, tangerine and slate in the core of the wine. Powerful at this stage and should be another strong vintage of Kutch Chard.
