Opened 2 hours before drinking, then decanted.Pretty good, seemed a little cooked (too much black olives),but overall a pretty decent bottle of a well made wine.Serve it at 16 Celsius,it would last longer, but I think it's time to drink.

@Brumont tasting, Stockholm Sample from magnum bottle On the nose perfume, red berries, mature, licorice. Good body structure, dry tannins, both smooth and harsh at the same time (very odd).

Deanted for 3 plus hours, complex slightly rustic nose, relatively clean cork. Not as full as either the 1999 or 2000, though it had a decent black fruit palate with medium acidity and tannin. It also lacked the bite of the 2000 but was still excellent value and has plenty of life to go.

Very impressive. Still with a fair amount of baby fat, the fruit hasn't developed fully, but there's plenty of it and the future is promising. For the time being, a ripe, rich mouthful of blackberry, redcurrant and liquorice with an intense finish.

G5 - Variety is the Spice of Life (Juliette): Blind. Dark purple color. Still plenty of structure after a afternoon decant. Tannins are firm and the wine is very angular. There's a dried leaf quality and a touch of black licorice. Very good, I poured more than my share to pair with the grilled beef. Really nice match.

I enjoyed this wine alot. Never tried it or the region previously and was poured blind. Poured dark in color. Nose of mint and faint hint of tobacco leaf. Chewey, with iron, dark cherry fruit, rocky and bitter chocolate. Reminded me of a leaner styled petite sirah. Excellent.

Wow, who needs Bordeaux? This is seriously good. Pulled the cork a couple of hours ago and decanted. There was quite a lot of sediment, and I lost about a glass. That glass is a little cloudy but tastes damn good. Looking forward to the bottle!
ETA: the dregs turned out to be more open than the decanted wine, which was still good, just a little harder to read. Next bottle in 2015 or so.

Pop and pour, potdicht. Drie uur decanteren, in de fles en een nachtje wachten. Mooie wijn, prachtige structuur. Vlezig, stoere tannines. Komende jaren vanafblijven! 89+

Initially a bit funky and animal, we gave the wine two hours in the decanter. The air made a lot of difference. Now it's dominated by fruit - developing aromas of ripe black plums and blackberries, dark chocolate and sweet spice. On the palate full and sturdy with high concentration of fruit, big ripe tannins, melting dark chocolate oak and some mentholated freshness. Still quite young, but definitely ready to go after aeration, this 04 now tastes like $50 and seems set to cruise and develop further for at least another ten. Excellent with prime rib and bearnaise. We're happy to have a case left.

A wine for the patient. Needs a lot of time to integrate the powerful tannins. But paired with rich food (I chose this to go with the cassoulet I have been cooking all day), it shows really well. Very peppery and spicy with a long aftertaste.

Dinner at Jace's (Jace's House): Decanted at 2pm and served throughout the evening at 8 and then 10pm, the wine is still painfully tannic on the finish, with a nice floral lift of cherries and tapenade, but less depth on the palate as the finish of the tannat grapes are not fully integrated. I think it has very nice upside but won't see its potential for another 7-10 years. Bury and revisit in 2020.

I know from my experience with the 1995 that this wine requires serious cellaring to reveal its real beauty. That said, this was already very enjoyable: Dark ruby with red berries, cherry and spices. Mid-full bodied with firm tanins, rich fruit, high acidity and a long finish. Very nice, and will definitely improve.

Terrific as always, wonderful vfm, Brumont fashioning Bordeaux elegance without losing any sense of place. Like a Japanese suit - fine tailoring from a classic tradition with an unmistakeably local touch. Smooth and long.

Good straight forward red, but not the smokey depth of the '03. Picked up for under $15 on a closeout, and was worth that but not a lot more. Drank the best on the 2nd day, so will let the remaining pair I have sit for a few years.

Vivra longtemps.

It's been a year since I last opened one of these, and I needed the cellar space so I figured why not? This is simply an excellent Madiran. This bottle seems appreciably evolved from the last sampling, with less creaminess and more pure Tannat characteristics. The nose is pure and fresh with tiny black and red fruits, rocks, hint of truffle, savory meat. Superb balance on the palate with much of the above plus an iron tang and drying tannins.

Madiran and the Wines of Alain Brumont (Vinothique, Queen's Road, Singapore): 65% Tannat, 35% Merlot. Decanted 2 hours. A deep, dark purple colour. Super-expressive nose, almost a little in-you-face, with thick scents of plums and ripe berries, along with caramelised soy suace, savoury black pepper steak, a hint of bramble and mint and whiffs of smokey ash, some mineral, all winding up to a bright lift of peppery spice that more or less shoots up the nose. Woah. Chad and I did not know quite what to make out of this for awhile. As expected, the palate was full of character. While not quite as OTT as the nose, it showed a spectrum of flavours, with red berries prominent, and then minty herbs, a hint of boiled cabbage, and more pepper. One could tell it was a big wine on the palate, but there was a nice amount of structure holding it up. There were firm, grippy tannins which, while noticeable and rather mouthcoating, were not clumsy by any means. Like Brumont's lower end VdP Tannat-Merlot, this wine also had really bright acid, which showed like pinpricks all over the mouth. It did help to keep the wine really lithe in spite of its size. I rated this slightly lower at first, especially since I had it next to the more friendly Chateau Bouscasse. However, the wine with its high-toned acid really came alive with the braised pork belly dish (Kong Bak Pao) that we ordered, with the acid cutting through the fat and the pork, which was swimming in its lovely dark-soy based sauce, coaxing the fruit and meat characters out from the wine. We all loved the way the wine and food came together.

Very young, with creamy oak on the finish, and also very tamed and plush for a Madiran with only slightly dry tannins, but there's the telltale funky nose, dark color, and great depth of flavor and superb fruit/acid balance. Should be stellar in a decade, but drinks pretty nicely now.

Still austere with good fruit to it. Age isn't very obvious but in the other hand nothing you strictly need waiting for, it's quite good at it is.
