Opened and poured at a restaurant. Light ruby core with watery rim. At first, tart cherry/cranberry aromas, later joined by strong mint and menthol-a cool rather than ripe vintage nose. Light to medium weight with a lean, grippy, saline, earthy feel and moderate tannins. With a few hours of air, the fruit sweetened to show riper black cherry with a blood orange note. The texture also softened with better integration of the acidity and tannins, but it never reached the silky mouth feel that this producer can achieve. It is relatively restrained and seemingly has avoided over extraction, both of which are positives for the vintage. I was not enamored of this Feusselottes but liked its trajectory over time, which suggests better things to come with more bottle aging. If I were to open another bottle in the near future, I would definitely opt for a several hour decant.

Spectacular. I love this wine pretty much every vintage, but the '05 is really something special. Effusive aromatics of perfectly pure cherry fruit. Incredible purity. While the fruit is so inviting and makes this easy to love, there is a serious core of minerality underneath it. Smooth and seamless. Everything is in perfect harmony. Adore this.

Blind 6/7. Josh had said he was bringing this, but once we switched this to "grand cru" only, I thought he was bringing another bottle. On the nose though, this immediately made me think of Mugneret-Gibourg and a powerful vintage, so I was wondering if this was an 05 from the sisters. I suspect subconsciously I was influenced by knowing that's what Josh was bringing. However, the 2.5 hours of air makes a huge difference to this wine (as I'd had it 4 days earlier off pop and pour when it was CLOSED). This is classic Mugneret-Gibourg, which is ripe fruit that's extracted just right, an unobtrusive touch of oak, some spice on the nose, great body with some dark fruit and good complexity. Open now, but only with the decant. Ultimately, this is a bit more Mugneret-Gibourg than it is Chambolle to me, but that's picking very tiny nits.
2005 Burgundy blinds on Jason's roof: Blind 5 of 9. This was a whiff - despite the house style and this being Chambolle, this was quite closed down. Given the structure I thought this might be one of the other two Ducs, and boy was I wrong! The bones are all here, but this is nowhere near ready for prime time - even the nose was pretty unforgiving.

French Wine at Lunch, and with the World Cup final: Absolutely stunning - the first serious 05 burgundy I've opened. Intense yet delicate raspberry fruit on the nose, just a little gamey funk beginning to show up, impeccable balance and still some tannin. A young wine for sure but not at all closed. Very very special wine and exemplifying everything I love in Burgundy.

At Acker's Wine Workshop Chambolle-Musigny Terroir Tasting at the Michaelangelo NY. Muted nose. Lot's of fruit on the palate. Well balanced and silky. I really enjoyed this. 92-93

Agree that the immediate pleasure delivered by the this wine may mask its complexity. I loved it. One note from the tasting that seemed right on to me was rose potpourri with lightly toasted thin curls of bark. Enjoyable for the full 2 hours I tasted it.

This is easily the best nose out of the first five wines with an elegant bouquet of red cherry, blackberry, current, and a developing savory and rustic character showing already. This palate has intense red cherry fruit but has so much silky Chambolle mineral texture with dark spices. Delicious and quite impressive. Better integrated than the ‘05 Roumier Les Cras right now.

2 oz pour. Not decanted. I liked this a lot. Several layers of minerals, dusty rasberrries, some cherry liquor. Touches of smoke and all spice. All this and delicate and elegant.
Zachys BYO Lunch in Burgundy (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): Small glass, brief note. Magnum directly from the domaine. Another wine that would have benefited from less tropical outdoor dining conditions in Beaune. Ripe red cherry and berry with very good density. Aromatically forward and engaging, then more firm and slightly backward on palate. Very good now, better after 2020.

Mugneret-Gibourg Chambolle-Musigny les Feusselottes Dinner (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Served single blind in 02-07 Feusselottes flight. Bright and ripe red fruit with excellent concentration. Balanced and accessible to start, I initially thought this was from 2007, but more density meatiness emerged with more time in glass. Excellent now, better in 5 years, then better yet in 10.

HDH auction tasting at Tru; 12/10/2015-12/12/2015 (Chicago, IL): This had a very elegant nose, with tons of crunchy red fruits. Tart, elegant, and light on the palate, but this is definitely not showing very much right now. I would hope that this becomes much more expressive with age. Still, this is very elegant and I love the racy acidity and bits of red fruit right now.

1 hour slo-o. Great pedigree here. Pristine, translucent hue. Fruity bouquet on a rich and balanced palate. Wine is entering its drinking window and should add more depth and complexity over the next few years. Mid-length finish at the moment.

Southside Chambolle 1er Crus (Chicago IL): Served Blind. Very primary dark red fruits. Tons of minerality with good fruit on the palate, but I have a feeling its not showing all that it can be. Really love the mineral backbone and acidity. Great stuff.

Extremely silky upon first opening. After a bit of air, the spicy oak and minerality emerge. Keeps changing, but this is really classy juice with the weight of a Grand Cru with tons of sap, but still not weighty. Serious upside for sure.

beautiful bouquet right off the bat, very nice red fruited essence, with good balance and lift. One of the more drinkable 05s i've had

Masterclass with Etienne de Montille (Domaine de Montille) and Marie-Andrée Mugneret (Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg) (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): Exceptional array of red and black cherry with impeccable balance. Seems so accessible, but this kept unfolding over 30 minutes, making me realize there is so much still hidden and waiting to emerge.
