I decided to try a second bottle of this wine and vintage, which I first reviewed in CellarTracker on 4/23/20 (note, my bottle is labelled 'Alto Adige', not 'Valadige' as CellarTracker has it) to see how it has fared though another year of aging. The double-faced cork still has no discernible wine penetration whatsoever, the flavors are a little less impactful than in the earlier-opened bottle but in general the winery's hallmark Pinot Grigio has held up very well. I've retained its 88 point rating.

For a mass produced Pinot Grigio it is easy to drink, especially on 90 degree days. We don’t drink this varietal a lot but for the price point it’s an easy buy

Bright golden-yellow with the faintest touch of green; very high specular reflectivity. Aromas are strong in intensity with a simple mix of tropical fruits and grassy florals. Some light ripe banana, green apple, and light citrus, along with a meadow flower character. On the palate, there is refreshing acidity and a light body that creates a freshness and zest that is welcome. Dry in framework, with a lower intensity of fruits. The attack shows Lemon, tart nectarine, and by midpalate some grassy gravel fill out the flavour profile. Finishes clean and fresh, with a zesty citrus note. Pretty simple and straight-forward, with just some hints of depth, but not a complex wine.
This is a refreshing, zesty, and spot-on Pinot Grigio for the region. Pretty much textbook, and provides a great value in old world wine that carries a simple elegance. A dry but well-balanced wine that is easy to drink and equally great alone as a refreshment or with classic summer foods. Nothing overwrought here. Great value.

Pale straw color. Notes of honeysuckle, lemon, grapefruit, and lime. Dry to off-dry light body and medium acidity. Drinks with a sour finish. The standard go to for Pinot Grigio, but in my opinion it is overpriced and overvalued.

12.5% alcohol; imported by SM USA, Inc, Miami Beach, FL; medium foil, cork is largely composite with solid cork ends bonded on; fast to medium legs, light crystalline yellow; nose of alcohol, citrus, Granny Smith apples, trace of pineapple, bananas; opened and kept in the fridge overnight, tasted 24 hours after opening at about 12 degrees C; first sip presents a jolt to the tongue, a kaleidoscope of tastes -- tannins, sourness, tartness, sweetness; notes of Mandarin oranges, lemonade, limeade, minerals, hints of bananas, pineapple, medium finish has a trace of bitterness, which complements the remaining flavors, much like a tiny pinch of bitters; pair with hard cheeses, like Gruyère or Gouda, or the semi-soft Port Salut

An introduction to the wines of Italy (Geoff's house): The Pinot Grigio was the first wine of the night and was enjoyed with charcuterie. It was a bright medium straw, with simple aromas of lemon and green apple of medium intensity. On the palate, I only got peach. Acidity was medium-plus, alcohol was low, and the wine was light in body. It was dry with no tannins evident and no signs of oak. The finish was quick. I found it a bit boring, although it did serve as a good introduction wine. I didn't find it went with the charcuterie as I expected it would.
Of the seven wines on the night, the Pinot Grigio was rated last by the group (all but one person rated it their personal least favourite). The group found it simple and lacking in aromas. It was my least favourite.

P: Med body; Very RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) balanced by an acidity which pretty much keeps things in check through the LONG, balanced, tangy/swt finish with a very, VERY slight bitterness that might actually be a + with food. For now & through '21. 12.5% ABV; My VG+/EXC-, the higher quite arguably for QPR. [Check with this vendor if interested in their very COMPETITIVE price.]
Note: Also tasted on 11/16, & 12/21/19

Winebar [1 Rosé, 4 Whites, & 9 Reds] from 12/20/19 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Frt grown @ 985-1,475 ft elev in "moderately loose & pebbly soils of morainic & fluvial origin;" Typically, "the grapes are soft-crushed, then carefully fermented in temp-controlled tanks, ff'd by several additional wks of aging prior to filtering & bottling."
Slightly too cold
N: CLOSED; Guessing minerals with HINTS of vanilla/spice?
P: Med body; RNIDSH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an almost puckerish acidity which does at least somewhat loosen its grip by the LONG, balanced, TANGY/swt (60:40) finish. Very nicely done for now & through '21, POSS '22? 12.5% ABV; My EXC-/EXC, the higher arguably for QPR. [Check with this vendor if interested in their very COMPETITIVE price.]

P: Med body; Very RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST stwish frt counterbalanced by an acidity which fairly elegantly transitions the wine into & through the LONG, balanced, tangy/swt finish with POSSIBLY an OCCASIONAL *hint* of very, VERY slight bitterness. For now & through '21. 12.5% ABV; My EXC-; [Check with this vendor if interested in their very COMPETITIVE price.]

Translucent with a green hue. Simple yet full nose and zesty palate of lime, green apple and wet grass. Good value for an easy, summer night.
