  • This bottle wasnt really as expressive as I hoped. Tired and flat? Not really, there was quite some density and extract. Definately not flawed in any way, more like my expectations got in the way... I thought there was some integration left for the wood also, so i might as well let these rest for a few yrs. Decanted 1 hr before 2h dinner.

  • Woah. Dense fruit, orange peel, bright cherry, complex. Palate is dusty, well structured, long finish. Needs time but excellent, open for 24 hr at this point

  • During a casual tasting dinner. Wanted to try this as the Monvigliero vineyard has gotten lots of attention recently with the Burlotto whole cluster wines. This 2015 was very aromatic, elegant with rose petals and sweet spices. Nice, but unfortunately the finish is ultra drynig, as so often with Barolo.

  • Very expressive nose which smells like a cool breeze on a mountain covered in wild flowers. It’s light bodied and highly flavorful. There is sour cherry, strawberry, orange, spices, and savory notes on the finish. Medium plus tannins, and a fair amount of acidity. This is delicious now, but will only improve with time as it mellows out.

  • At a private New Year's lunch. This wine opened well with a lovely purity and Chambolle-like weight yet still very young with a strong tannic spine. The nose is scented with rose, wild strawberry, redcurrants, cinnamon stick and red orange zest. The palate has lovely fine fruit balanced by touches of flowers and red orange leading into a firm persistent finish. There is that real intensity without weight that recalls Burgundy yet that distinctive Barolo structure and savoury edge.

  • Drank over five hours, and it delighted during every one. Started out brash and brassy, with the classic tar and roses, and probably a little TOO tannic, but maybe that's because I didn't pair anything hugely fatty with it. By hour two, it was a warm and inviting, the fruit had balanced out and it felt positively silky in the mid-palette. Later that night, in the last hours, it was complete seduction. Sleek fruit, softened tannins and a nice residual acidity.

  • Tasted for lunch and then retasted next to the 2017 Baroli from Elio Grasso. This is the essence of Verduno, with beautifully pure flowery notes, fresh overall appearance (even in 2015) and just extra perfumed. It's showing notes of crushed violets, rose petals, but also already hints of the Monvigliero-typical spiciness with some cinnamon, pepper, christmas spices, also some dark red cherries, chalky minerality and some cedar wood, mint and pipe tobacco. It's medium-full bodied (with a touch of extra fat from the vintage), has the typical pretty high tannic structure, but feels incredibly silky at the same time. Medium-high acidity and very good overall balance, this is showing surprisingly well at this early stage. Long finish with a touch of orange zest. I think it's not a sin to taste a bottle now, but in general Monvigliero ages exceptionally well, so it might be wise to wait a few years and let the aromatics develop. Lovely bottle. (94+)

  • I'm scoring this relatively low because this is clearly too young to drink but, upon aging 10yrs+, will merit a score in the mid 90s. The color is still a youthful medium/dark crimson red with telltale Barolo transparency. Nose was initially very difficult to coax out, again a sign that the wine is just too tight right now. I drank this over several nights and on the fourth night I began to appreciate the potential: typical notes of roses and licorice but also nicely perfumed secondary aromas of raspberry, firewood and dried flowers. Tannins all over the place, which I loved, and also attest to the age-worthiness. Finish is a bit short but that will change as well I think. The wine has the fruit structure and tannin to merit 95(ish) scores in the coming years. Barolo fans will love this but hold off if you can.

  • Extremely pretty young Barolo. Very clear nose of rose, fruit and earth, and red fruited crunchy palate. Lots of depth already and wide open in this early stage. A bit of tannins peeping through after a couple of hours but nothing obtrusive. Only a bit of mid-palate heaviness betrayed this wine’s youth and its 14.5% alcohol. The nose reminded me of the 2009 Burlotto Monvigliero but that wine had more balance.

  • Dategli 3/4 ore d'aria e la sua giovinezza non sarà un problema.
Un grande Barolo ad un prezzo eccezionale. Da riprendere

  • My impressions are more in line with Eoin Harkins note below. Beautifully balanced and elegant with red fruits and floral notes. Very pretty.

  • Tasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening Tasting Event in NYC. This wine came fro grapes in the Montvigliero vineyard that had a long hang time but were made in a traditional style. The structure is visible especially in the big but ripe tannins. Acidity isn't as bright as in the 2016's and is probably consistent with the longer hang time. This has a rich and fairly round texture and mouth feel. and a pleasant fruity and floral nose. Palate is fairly rich. Nice wine with some age-ability for a 2015.

  • Medium garnet color. After about 90 minutes in decanter, this shows a lot of alcohol in the nose as well as black fruits and spice. This is med-full bodied and very dense. The very high level of tannin means this needs several years to soften, but the quality of the tannin, assures this will age beautifully! This is incredibly young and unformed with black fruits, creosote, spice and dried flowers. I've had mostly mediocre experiences with this wine over age 12 (but great ones until then!), but if there is one vintage that will break that trend, this is it! Drink 2025-2035 93-96

  • Young for sure but already sensational! Beautiful nose of red florals, spices, dark red berries and some mineral notes, lots of structure, but the tannins aren’t obtrusive, medium plus acidity and a killer finish

  • Really quite wonderful at the moment, despite a firm tannic backbone. P

  • Sexy notes of crushed violets, dark red berries, some mineral notes, spices, some cinnamon and just overall inviting, but with structure to age. It‘s medium-full bodied, with medium-high tannin that is very good quality and medium+ acidity. Good length. A delicious, layered and very good young Barolo.

  • Beautifully perfumed with cherry and roses, basil, and a medicinal herbal nose. Cooler and more herbal than the San Lorenzo with more sap. Menthol, basil, florals and cooler nebbiolo fruit. This has a lovely inner mouth perfume. Density without weight. Overall, a harmonious wine with great depth and subtlety. Graceful yet serious. Firm ripe tannins on the back end.
