Deep color. Waxy lanolin, lemon oil, and citrus aromas with smoky, mineral undertones. Rich texture, with melon, citrus, stone nd beeswax flavors. Nice. 89+.

--- COLOR: Medium translucent straw NOTE: Oily, anise and jasmine driven nose. Kind of weird. Mouth has a nice medium opulence to it, but I'm still struggling to figure out what/where the fruit is. It doesn't seem tired, it just seems like this thing doesn't want to tell me. After enough sips my nasal and retronasal cavities are picking up some pungent dried California apricots. Not the sweet Turkish kind, the more sour Cali kind. The finish picks up a bit of cream and this becomes a sort of apricot-cream marmalade that turns a bit yeasty in the 20+ sec finish. Interesting, but I've enjoyed California pure Viogniers from Denner far more than this. It was good to try, and now I've had a few Condrieus. Unless anyone has some recommendations (besides Guigal's Blanc Ex Voto) I think I'll just stick with my preferred (and usually less expensive) Cali Viognier/Rhone white cuvees, especially from the Paso Robles region.

Glad I had it, not sure I'd buy it again. Interesting, ultra-restrained in style, almost not there at all. May not sound like a ringing endorsement, but is an interesting counterpoint to so many forward, super-ripe wines. The alcohol is there, and the acidity is not (as you'd expect for the AC), but the wine does not feel out of balance - just intensely fleet and subtle.

Cheers to the Record Snowfall (Roberts House): really lovely nose of honeydew, marmalade, quince, and apricot. palate continues to show the melon, with a nice, medium(+) body. the nose by itself makes this wine excellent, but the palate couldn't keep up with it and then there is some heat on an otherwise pleasant finish.

The Blind Drunks monthly tasting (Chateau Lay): Served double blind. Relatively deep color copared to the rest in this flight. Opens with aromas of earthy minerals and apple, with a waxy Rhonish quality. Developed a prominent petrol note with air, more like an aged Riesling. Flavors of apple and pear, with a rich, medium to heavy mouthfeel.

I love Condrieu, and this is true to the varietal and the terrior. It is not as floral as some Villard that I've had, or as concentrated as Guigal's La Doriane, or as viscous as a terrific Texier Janrode I had recently. But a lovely, honest Condrieu.

Notes of mineral, lanolin and white peach. Palate follows the nose; maintains nice acidity.

Random Wines on Snowbound Night (Our House (2033 Brandywine St., Philadelphia)): Nice golden color. Absolutely fantastic nose. Tropical. Almost painfully intense. Sweet spice, melon and peach. A slight bit heavy and unfocused on the palate. Good melon. Long finish.
