Dinner with Nonna (Donnhoff, Scavino, Borgogno, Castell’in Villa): Oh my! This is in a perfect place! My sons potential grandmother in law, (nonna)who is from Italy, came over and we cooked together for both families. True lasagna made with bechamel, and suppli, these incredible rice balles filled with cheese and dropped in fryer. Ok, so this wine was just right. There was bright red fruit, but with an aged feel, like cherries, in slight compote, on a table in an antique store. There were also light spices, and lovely earthiness. This wine showed pretty in the glass as well, as it was cordovan/ruby, with pale pink edges. This was great in the mouth, with a nice swallow, dark cherry, earth, muted and mellow, and some aged tobacco perception. I really loved it.

Here I found a fully mature yet wonderfully vibrant display of dark red fruits with dusty earth, leather, and undergrowth. On the palate, it was tart yet silky with secondary notes of savory meat and mushroom. The finish was long with dried citrus, tart berries and spice. It’s hard to imagine this maturing any further, but it’s a pleasure to drink right now.

Really impressed - this is very good - and this bottle is clearly better than the one I had earlier this year. A rare bottle of fresh cherries and sweet prunes - this can only happened in a bottle which is maturing beautiful after 30 years. The nose tells you that this is an old wine - however the palette does not - and what is really different from my last bottle is a long and very overwhelming aftertaste that just goes one playing a symphony of minerality and fruit even after 30 years. We are very impressed.

Not a very open nose - rather muted - the palette however is different - a superb balance - very well integrated medium tannins and medium acidity - you do not think that the wine is 30 years old - the fruit is dark cherries and some blackberry. Not a very long aftertaste - however a very impressive wine its age taken into consideration.

Midsummer weekend @ Sturköbaren; 6/23/2012-6/24/2012 (Sturkö, Sweden): Nose quite okay and typical - a bit blurred though - but the taste lacks vivid fruit. On its way downhill.
