This was our fifth time trying the Cliff Lede Cab (different vintages), and although it was certainly not bad, it was not as good as the previous four vintages, in my opinion. Yes, it was smooth and soft, but just TOO smooth and soft for our liking. It did not "stand up" well to the prime rib, and I think it would have almost disappeared with a grilled steak.
I think this might be better suited as an accompaniment to cheese and/or hors d'oevres.

A really good and distinct wine. Intensely dark color and aroma. Full body with big legs. Full mouthfeel. Smoothed out tannins after an hour decant. Big cheery and blueberry fruit with some chalky tones. Awesome with a steak, but a bit too strong on its own. Drinking well now. QPR is “worth it” because of depth and distinction.

Cliff Lede Winery Tasting: Sourced from Cliff Lede's hillside estate vineyard, these grapes get some reprieve from the typically unrelenting Calistoga sun. You can taste that in the wine: it has considerably more finesse than those emanating from the valley floor. Still, it's big and bold, tannic, and in need of a couple more years or lots of air to drink its best. It'll be worth the wait.

Still young. Amazing how inky blue this wine is. Lots of blueberry and blackberry fruit but not sweet. Lots of muscular tannin backing up the fruit. Needs 2+ hours to open up so there's some balance. Seems like it will be killer in a few years.

This was yummy - full bodied and smooth all around. Great balance of fruit, earthiness with a nice long finish.
