  • This has a dark colour, a perfumed nose and a rather more open palate than previously (6 April 2020), with a good weight of naturally sweet fruit and a positive finish. Very good and may still improve.

  • This wine was delicious from barrel and delicious on release—then it fell asleep. There are no signs of age on the color; it seems to have put on weight in the bottle. With air, there are hints at a bright future, with dark and dry tannins, tart black cherry, baking spices (especially clove), and classic CdB steaminess. After a few hours a bit of blood orange peel and wild flowers emerge. Finish is long and acid is properly balanced. I have always been a fan of the stony minerality of this vineyard fruit; this bottle highlights it. I’ll bury remaining bottles and try to forget where they are located. Patience, lads and lasses.

  • This has a fairly deep colour and quite ripe dark cherry and bramble fruit, medium weight and some tannin still on the finish. This may well improve as the tannin subsides. Perhaps I should keep my remaining bottle for a few years.

  • Light to medium weight, well structured, even a little austere, with mature cherry/raspberry fruit, fresh acidity and a modest finish. This is keeping well.

  • Two bottles of the 2005 was enjoyed at a dinner party so no detailed notes were taken. From memory, the wine has a fresh medium-to-dark ruby red color in the glass. It was smooth, well-rounded and beautifully balanced. There were no signs of age. Absolutely an excellent Burgundy Premier Cru, from an outstanding vintage, that's in prime condition and can go on for quite a few years to come.

  • Medium ruby-garnet.
Sour cherry and jammy strawberry on the nose.
High acid, medium tannin — despite it’s age it still has pretty strong structure, and could likely hold up for several more years. The palate is colored with an earthiness that runs throughout the medium red fruit and dried herb flavors. Impressive and likely still getting better.

  • 1/6, very good cork. Served at 13-14C.
Pale/medium garnet core, wide pale rim. Nose shows red cherry fruit, touch of liquorice and earth, medium bodied on palate, leanish with similar fruit profile, very fine tannins, puts on a touch of weight as it warms slightly, fresh acidity, gently spicy with a light creamy edge on the good length finish.

  • Nice garnet color. Nose of cherry, stones, some spice. Palate of tart red cherry, some earth and minerals. Still tannic and has yet to develop significant secondary characteristics. Nice, simple red Burg.

  • Powerful, tart red berry on the palate. A bit too young on this showing but could be accessible with long decant.

  • Tremendously powerful and deep for a Savigny. This bottle seemed at the early end of its drinking window. Solid garnet color. Plenty of fruit supports the firm tannic structure. Hard to pick this as a Cote de Beaune wine, except for the touches of delicacy beneath the depth. Long life ahead.

  • There was a slight musty smell on first opening although the cork was sweet and there was little only a little seepage. After decanting the smell abated. There was only a very light sediment in the bottle. The color in the glass is a lovely deep ruby red. On the nose the aromas are reminiscent of raspberry and red cherry. These red fruits are replicated on the palate, which is satisfying. The body is medium-full, and all elements are in very good balance. Tannins are silky smooth but still evident and the acidity is still lively. 2005 was, of course, a golden vintage. This beauty, although not tremendously complex, is in the zone now and is highly enjoyable. Stood up surprisingly well to spicy beef hotpot. Excellent QPR. There's no rush, however, as it's likely to remain good for another 8 years.

  • Almost two years since my last bottle. Heady nose of red fruit and dried herbs, which transitions to the palate with dark cherry fruit and dried spice. This is lean and dry in the mouth. Some fruit sweetness emerges after a few hours. No degradation over night, now showing dark cherry, a bit of wild strawberry and pomegranate, with a touch of smoke. This is balanced, no longer primary, but not especially developed. A bit leaner and dryer than I would like. Needs more time to flesh out. In New City.

  • Almost one year since my last bottle. This was disappointing on the first night, because it was murky and only after three hours did some red fruit come out. The next night, with Oliver, much better. The cherry fruit is more apparent, although the palate seems somewhat soft and still somewhat murky, with some brown spices. Good, not great.

  • Dark fruits on the palate, with ever-so-slight touches of mocha. The tannin seems burried in the fruit. The mouthfeel is very silky and the wine comes across as elegant. This also comes across as primary on the palate, with little complexity or nuance, and yet the structure is rather soft and giving. My suspicion is that structure is indeed here, to allow for further development, it's just not that apparent today. No degradation over night. Hold.

  • Drunk to as accompaniment to a bog oven-baked chicken.

Very fresh and lively with a nice darker undertone.
Quite light and Pinkish! colour and with the spots of darker red in between it has a special glow in the riedel glass.
Both wild fresh strawberries and more dark garden ones.
the high fruit acidity makes it a very nice close to perfect food match.

  • WSET II; 10/23/2010-10/24/2010 (Portland, ME): Medium-minus ruby color. Medium-plus intensity nose of cherry, strawberry, perfume. Medium body, silky palate with fine tannins and medium-plus acidity. Medium-plus length. Very good.

  • I took the biggest position on '05 Burgundy of any wine in my lifetime, probably about 7 cases all told. Every bottle I bought was $100 or less, down to around $25, so you can quickly see I wasn't competing for the stuff that legends are made of. When I go into my modest cellar and pass the '05's, I get a wistful feeling like, "Gee, I wish something beyond a bourgogne was ready and oh by the way even the bourgogne's have shut down." So in a moment of weakness I grabbed this, the logic being, Savigny isn't exactly grand cru, maybe it's ready. Oh, was I wrong. Even after an hour and a half it's shut down tight, and what you can detect almost tastes more like gamay, ie only the highest red fruited top notes escape. Well balanced and good depth, and only 12.5% alcohol. My bad, see you in 5 years.

  • This continues to show well. The wine is beginning to show signs of maturity on both the bouquet and palate. This should continue to drink well over the next few years.

  • Nose: Very close initially w only a hint of strawberry. Opened up after approx. 1hr decanting to reveal ample strawberry, but also forestal notes and a hint of licorice. Palate: Fruit-driven, high acidity and some tannins. Well balanced. This is quite enjoyable at present but certainly has a long life in front of it.

  • This wine showed very well. This is a lighter style of red Burgundy that relies on finesse rather than extraction and power. The aromatics show red cherry, strawberry and floral notes. The bouquet is complex but subtle. The color is a light to medium red. On both the bouquet and palate this wine is currently very approachable. The medium bodied palate continues the bouquet's theme of complexity and subtlety over extraction and power. The plate is fresh and lively with the red cherry fruit balanced by light tannins and pleasant acidity. This is drinking well now.

  • Plenty of ripe red fruit, reminescent of a strawberry tart. Very approachable right now.
