for me this wine is in the sweet spot; bright red fruit aromas and spice notes; acid and tannins are balanced, and the finish is perfectly smooth. our 44th anniversary wine

Needs at least a half hour of air to calm down, and best after 2 hours. Initially it’s a blast of cherry and nothing but cherry but given time it starts showing more earth and herbal elements. It is the biggest and sweetest of the Walter Hansel lineup and the one I would say is enjoyable now but will be better in 3 years and beyond.

This 4 years old bottle has a Light red color, with strong and delicious aromas of basil, cloves and red fruits. At taste it is spice and short to medium finishing. Incomparably better than his sibling the 2017 South Slope.

Medium-dark reddish garnet in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe red cherries, blueberries & strawberries with overtones of floral notes of violets, earthy/dusty & spice notes, minerals, cherry-cola, a hint of oak & anilla in the background. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, rich, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with spices, minerals, cola, some oak & a touch of vanilla. Drinks quite well at present but should develop further with a few more years of additional aging at which time it may merit a higher score (93+). A wonderful Pinot.

Deep earthy, cherry notes on the nose. The palate shows deep, lush fruit with some real elegance. Black cherries, blueberries, earth. Sharp tannins, great acidity and balance. Finishes long with dark fruits and fresh earth. Lovely now but needs time (2 to 3 years) to develop. Will drink well for years.
