Seemed over the hill, oxidation notes, darker colour, very rich and tropical fruits nose with peach pit flavour. I did agree with other comments hat the wine had a sweet nose and dry taste. Odd.

I had 6 half-bottle of this wine. I drank 5 of them too soon as I did not think it would evolve well. It was rather thin, dry and lacking in richness. I was rather disappointed. I opened this last, almost forgotten bottle, and did not expect this: wonderful nose of petroleum and orange zest. Rich mouth with perfect balance between fruit, acidity and a touch of spices. Great lenght. Lesson learned. Grand cru Brand: wait a little.

Golden color,a bit darker than I expected for an '05. This wine is what I've come to expect from Brand: big, rich fruit, bold structure with an underlying core of acid to make it bone dry despite the upfront sweetness. I'm inclined to drink remaining bottles sooner than later.

First sign of problem was the dark golden, almost amber, color. Then the nose was dominated by a burnt caramel aroma. Blind, I would have guessed an aged gewurztraminer. There was still plenty of zest at the edges, but with a heavy, creamy center. It definitely was atypical to the point of seeming flawed. Has been stored impeccably. I have one more bottle and will try it soon.

Quite blousey and boisterous, the nose is subdued, but the mouth is large; the length is in the middle somewhere... Spicy and almost excessively "deep" in the back of the throat in a sort of dark way. Doesn't strike me as a real beauty of an ager, but it seems to be in a good spot now - for what it shows.

This was an outstanding wine. And given the relatively low score by Schildknecht and by CT users, could it be that this wine just needed a couple more years in the bottle to come together? Beautiful golden colour, nose of yellow plum, peach, honey, petrol and a hint of smoke. Beautiful balance on a very rich and dry, floral palate of plums, spices. Despite 15,5 pct. alcohol, there was no heat on the palate. Kudos to my friend for guessing this wine all the way down to vintage and vineyard. Went extremely well with grilled fish and ratatouille.

came together on the second day. day one - life was clumsy for this guy - all muscle and very little nuance. the yellow fruits and grapefruit showed up on the second day and balanced out the minerality. didn't have the depth that I expected and this seems overprices for what is delivered.

This wine did not meet my expectations. The nose had subdued aromatics but did open with time and warming. The issue I had with the wine was the palate ... it seemed clumbsy and short on the finish. Is the wine too dry? It just did not seem to have personality this night. Perhaps it is closed. Not a bad wine for the sale price at Premier Cru but I acutally prefer the Heimbourg at this point.

The Magical 2005 Vintage at Domaine Zind Humbrecht (Turckheim, Alsace, France): This bottle had the unenviable task of following the stunning Windsbuhl Riesling. Despite this, it made it's own characteristics well known. Very aromatic and rich on the nose, then followed by a very dry palate and a super long finish. When these grapes were picked Olivier thought he had a Brand VT and in the end it fermented to an indice 1 after 15 months. Despite this it works really well, with a great balance and the sensory trick of a sweet nose and a dry palate. Seems to need more time to open than many young Brand Rieslings. 50+13+13+8.5+8.5=93++

Absolutely brilliant, just starting to open its drinking window and will continue to last for quite a few more years.

Bone dry and unfeelingly harsh. Nice enough dark notes, but this half bottle seems unrepentant. Go figure,
