  • Spicy and herbal black cherry, this is the most savory and stern of the '17 single parcel wines. Still lots of fun with food, but I will hold longer.

  • Two hours after opening the wine is starting to unfurl.

Bright, fresh red fruits dominated the wine at first, but the more time went on additional elements began to emerge. First it was a dash of brown spice. That was followed by fennel and a fresh shovelful of damp earth. Finally a clear note of nectarine came through on the finish. Tannins clamped down on the finish, but not painfully, just a reminder that patience is a virtue.

  • Pale magenta. Nose heavily influenced by stems in the forefront, followed by a savory, darker fruit profile. Some earthy loam in the background with air. Similar on the palate again with stems on the palate and dark, savory character. High acidity spiking at times with medium+ still drying tannins but smooth and not bitter at all. No hints of oak at all even though I'm sure it's been aged in oak.

Really unique wine that prominently has a strong stemmy character. I haven't really seen this degree of whole cluster character in wines outside of some northern rhones and beaujolais. Very unique. Wine is well made without intrusive oak, but it definitely caters to particular palates. Further bottle age unlikely to subsume the stemmy flavors as it's a core element of this wine and probably a signature of this particular producer. This wine is not typical for either Oregon or Burgundy -- it's unique in and of itself. People who appreciate this style may rate this much higher.

  • In spite of the notes to leave this alone, I chose to open my first Goodfellow Family Cellars. Beautiful aromatics. Tart cherries. and cassis on the palate with licorice at the very end. Fairly tannic but tannins are velvety. A beauty.

  • At first tight as a drum.

With some air, cooler Morey like blue fruits, perfume and florals emerge. It's firm and structured , yet beautifully balanced. Cool fruits, spice and florals along with some mossy cooler herbs. The following day, more spice and floral notes. This has serious depth and balance, but is shutting down pretty hard. The quality is hard to miss, but I would hold mine for several years. I have little doubt this will emerge after its slumber, but I would hold for now.

  • Quite young and a bit tight. Acidity up front on the palate. Polished concentrated red fruit notes, cherry and cassis notes. Finish a bit overshadowed by structure. Nice concentration and depth, quite fresh. Needs some time though.

  • 1st of 2 bottles. Pop n' pour into a GGG glass, side by side comparison with the 2017 House Block Whistling Ridge Pinot Noir.

Predominantly red fruit on the nose (raspberry, strawberry, pomegranate) that is a little more sweet and fragrant than in the House Block bottling. Good dose of organic soil, baking spices, and a touch of granite. The wine is elegant yet formidable, with good tension, coating the palate and tongue with bright red fruit and baking spice notes lifted by its mouthwatering acidity. The wine's aromatics shut down after about 45 minutes, with just some faint tart cherry, wet leaves, and baking spice. This definitely needs time, and I'll be saving my remaining bottle to open at least 10 years from now.

  • A brief note form a tasting with Marcus Goodfellow:

A structured, yet highly perfumed nose, with a wonderful mix of cooler Morey like fruit, loamy notes, florals, and savory notes. On the palate, it is broad and sappy with depth and power coupled with grace. Rich and deep, powerful, yet simultaneously nuanced. Iron fist in a velvet glove power. Great lift on the back end. Very long. Fantastic. One of the best domestic pinots I have had.
