Quite red fruited for a Pinot M. Very light bodied too thought very fresh feeling. Maybe not the best vintage for Meunier but they have made a nice food wine here.

Consumed over 90 minutes. This could use 1 hour of air before consuming. Light-moderste aromas of buttered pastry and red cherry. Moderate flavors of buttered pastry, red cherry, and good acidity to balance it all out. Moderate complexity/finish. Very drinkable now. Pinot Meunier, bottled 7/2016, disgorged 6/2020, 3 gr./liter.

I love CT (Chartogne-Taillet in this case, but I also 💌 CellarTracker) and Mike knows it, so when I announced we would be having caviar for an appetizer, he was thoughtful enough to bring this along. The oyster shell and briny mineral notes of the Barres married nicely with the caviar. Lemon and stone fruits in a very dry, clean and focused (non-oxidative) style. Very nice, but definitely needs more time to really blossom.

Not sure what to believe here as I understood “Les Barres” to be 100% ungrafted Pinot Meunier but the label states this is 100% Pinot Noir*. To my palate, it tastes like the former. Regardless, this pours with a strikingly pale straw color and a persistent mousse. The nose is somewhat reticent but I also believe it was served too cold. On the palate, whoa. The first thing that hits is the minerals. Then it’s the bright lemon citrus fruit mixed with red berries. After that, it’s minerals, and then more minerals. So chalky and saline with fantastic acid. The finish is long and steely. A nerdy Champagne and certainly not for the faint of heart. Don’t serve this too cold! Disgorged June 2019.
*edit: It has come to my attention that there is also a parcel of Pinot Noir that is also planted in "Les Barres" and that the two are distinguished by white labels (Pinot Meunier) or black labels (Pinot Noir). They should probably try and make it a little less confusing.

A delightful introduction by a good friend as his upscale "house champagne" that delivered a sophisticated, nicely-chiseied, dry well-rounded wine. A bit young, it showed much better on day 2 ( the vacu-vin champagne cap actually worked!). Distinct notes of mild toast, lemon, peach, tropical flower and yeasty apple in the background. Compared with recent bottles, more refined and less rich, drier style than the Delamotte, on a much lower scale of refinement than the 2007 Cristal, less creamy and rich than the Pierre Peters Chetillons. Worth buying and it is indeed a not-inexpensive, but nonetheless, nice QPR.

Wine in the time of Corona Virus - Quarantining in NYC & NH; 3/7/2020-9/1/2020 (NYC/NH): From the wine list at Tokyo Record Bar (NYC). This was excellent and while it is still young, drinking very well. Lovely red fruits, with bright acidity and cashmere bubbles. Disappeared very quickly! Paired with togarashi popcorn and "Jessica"- Allman Brothers (hubby's choice) "Blister in the Sun" - Violent Femmes (my choice).

My favorite champagne of the night at Air's Champagne Parlor in NYC (which is a great spot). It was served too cold at first and came across as more sharp edged and a bit tight. Left it alone for a bit and came back and suddenly it was all interesting and different. Most at the table got red fruits. If so, it was like the skin of a ripe plum with a bit of bitter but just the right amount. Drinking very nicely. Glad we have two coming.

Really wonderful. Nice citrus fruit, chalk, and salinity. Good balance. Wonderful lingering acid-driven finish.
