Wow! Mörk och tät. I högsta grad levande fruktaromer med tertiära inslag som kommer smygande. Skulle säga mörka bär, körsbär, tobak och läder. Lång och komplex. Utmärkt.

Still a work in progress but showing promise. I agree that it's angular - like other 05s, it tastes like a modern-day 86. Mostly blackberry notes, with lingering tannins and a little bite on the finish. Decanting helped and it was better the next day, so time will soften the edges further, but 05 is what it is.

Mid-garnet. Not deep in colour. Nose is muted--a little herbal but not excessive. Has length but could do with more weight and complexity. For me, this is too angular to spot as Margaux and barely of classed growth quality though its not about to fall over either.

Easter wine with roast leg of lamb. Medium body, well balanced with fully integrated tannins. Cherry and currants, leather, dusty earth, and herbal notes. Probably at its best now.

Nose: plenty of red fruit, black current, Some oak, a bit lactic at opening and starting to show subtle tertiary tones (leather).
Palate: Not very complex or dense, but just well balanced, vivid and good tannins. Finish medium.
Drinking stage: at the start of maturity and very enjoyable. No problem to cellar for additional 10-15 years, since there is enough fruit left with good tannins. Classic left bank style.

Deep inky purple w/black core; Still fruit forward with ripe cassis/blackberry, forest floor and wet tobacco. Excellent extract, concentration, weight; still solid tannins, good lift, balance, with tertiaries just starting to come in with slight wilted flower petals and gravelly tannic grip. Had this Margaux side by side with '88 Ch. Margaux and it performed very well. Great Thanksgiving wine that stood up to everything on the table. Drink now, or keep for another 10 years. T-day at BN's.

Deep and glossy colour still. Reticent nose--tea-leaf and mulberry. It took a long time for me to detect some riper, earthy hints. Rather light bodied with almost fierce impression of both acidity and hard tannins. This just so reminds me of a 2002 in structure rather than a 2005. I just don't get the concentration or ripeness of a 2005. That said, although it is angular, it may soften into something rather nice in time.

Quite a fragrant nose. Lots of sweet, very vanilla oak is predominant. Entry is savory fruit, quite robust and extracted. Finishes long and tobacco, liquorice, and black pepper, and spice. Tannins mid-grained and drying. Better score if not for the overly drying tannins which surely are the back side of the pleasant vanilla wood nose. Many years left. Extend to 2028.

Decanted 2 hours. Drunk over the next 2 hours. Floral, the nose is polished and elegant. Purple fruit, blackberry, black cherry, kirsch, orange. Dry, Indian spices, cardamom. Medium bodied. The tannins are smooth. 13% but the alcohol sticks out a bit.

Popped and poured, consumed over two days. Color is dark and shows no real signs of age. Day 1 was rather unremarkable and just not very expressive. In fact, it was hard to me to even realize the potential as it just seemed so...blah. Never the less, I put the cork back in the bottle and let half of the bottle sit until the next evening. Day 2 was like, "whoa". The nose was fascinating with a complex combination of currants, olives, mushrooms, leather, sandalwood and I swear there was turmeric too. Anyway, it was all working and so much fun to sniff. The palate was much more simple with lightly stewed red currants dominating forest floor but the finish was pleasant and easily lasted 30 seconds. A remarkable turnaround from the initial impression on Day 1 and I wish I had another bottle to try again a few years down the road. Drink now with extended decant or continue to Hold.

Appearance: Bright and clear, it has deep ruby color, with narrow garnet rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit such as blackcurrant, blackberry, oak notes of cedar, sweet spice of licorice, maturity notes of savory, mineral notes of earth, kernel notes of coffee and milk chocolate. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and velvety texture, with medium alcohol and full body. It has medium (+) intensity flavors of black fruit such as blackcurrant, plum and blackberry, oak notes of cedar, kernel notes of coffee, sweet spice of licorice, dairy notes of cream. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Good quality Margaux with a fairly intense nose of good complexity, the wine has a nice palate, balancing well on all front and showing harmony, as well as exhibiting good concentration and a fair length. It is an all-rounded wine, a typical example of a nice Margaux in a good vintage. Ready to drink now and can be maintained for another 3-5 years.
Black Lion Wine Club - 2000, 2005, 2008 Margaux Tasting (The Black Lion): Appearance: Clear, medium intensity, ruby, garnet on the rim Nose: Clean, medium intensity, dark fruits, vanilla, developing Palate: Off-dry, medium acidity, medium ripe, fine tannins, medium(+) body and intensity, blackcurrant fruit and spice, toast, medium(+) finish Conclusions: Very good wine, nicely balanced, quite fine and well integrated, can drink now but has the potential for further ageing

Anita Dinner: Dark opaque ruby-purple; once this warmed up it showed nice dark red floral notes, classic cassis/blackberry, wet earth tobacco and cedar. It was very primary, with more ripe dark berries, clovey-licorice notes and floral component, rich body, grippy hefty tannins, and good balanced acidity. Young, and just starting its evolution. Quite nice, great potential, but needs another 5 years to try again. Maybe 93

YES. Sort of ok, probably not a notable chateau, normally, but in 2005 you can expect more. Nice easy drinking, smooth tannins and pleasant without being memorable. Maybe not worth 50 euro.

Decanted overnight and smelled very fragrant with typical juicy Margaux red fruit and floral character when re-bottled to free up the decanter. DOA on the palette. Stewed and dead. Left in the sun? That's wine, I suppose!

Wine event at Raffles hotel. Double decanted 3 hours. Earthy tones on the nose. Medium weight in the mouth, tobacco, cassis, black fruits. Oak is evident. Tannins have not totally smoothed out yet, is an enjoyable drink now, but should be better in 3 or more years.

From a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, cassis, tobacco, earth and leafy scents poke through. Medium bodied with some dryness in the tannins, give it a few more years. There is some tartness in the red and black fruit finish.

on the nose cassis, fresh, the taste is disappointing, tart, fresh fruit , yes, but for this vintage there had to be more power, not even a midweight body, short or lack of aftertaste, as I said before, really disappointing, and this is a Grand Cru Classe 2005! 82- ?

BORDEAUX 2005 / Cabernet rules; 4/5/2006-4/10/2006 (Bordeaux): Very ripe black cherry nose with a hint of violets, and the palate is rich while also retaining freshness. A tad high on alcohol with a hint of synthetic flavors on the mid palate... but this is happily overshadowed by a nice texture. 90-92+
