Edgy upon pulling the cork. The wine needs an hour or two of air to reveal its character. Noteworthy concentration, substance, and overall character. 89-90.

Concentrated, well-structured, balanced. Typical bouquet and profile. Whatever it lacks in complexity it makes up for with commanding presence and substance. Highly enjoyable!

This has much changed since last I had a taste from this bottle. On a descent.
A: Deep garnet N: Medium nose of prunes, violets, thyme, lavender, candied pomegranate, rhubarb P: Medium sweet, medium (+) acidity, medium (+) sandy tannin, medium (+) intensity, medium body, medium finish C: I think more acidity is needed for the sugar. Sugar sticking around for a long time. Not refreshing. The intensity of red and black fruit, florals and herbs is carried through to rather clipped finish. This bottle has been open for a long time. Its a good quality wine but I would have the rasteau over this any time.

D5 DipWSET FORTIFIED WINES - home prep; 6/2/2022-6/3/2022: A: Deep garnet N: Medium (+) nose of Prune, black cherry, candied violet, bay leaf, cooked RHUBARB, molasses, white pepper P: Medium sweet, high acidity, medium (+) sandy tannins, low alcohol, medium (+) intensity and long finish C: acid and sweetness are in harmony here. Ideal length and great intensity and complex. Outstanding quality wine.
I think Rhubarb may be my "tell" for these red VDNs

Raisins, carob, molasses, and buttery popcorn note on the bouquet and palate. Concentrated, balanced, and delicious. Easy to like.

Another fun experience. Excellent concentration, structure, and balance. Agreeable rusticity underlies the power. Non-cloying.

Good, but felt like there was something missing - not sure what. The fruit was a little muddled maybe. Still a good after dinner drink.

Small Chapoutier tasting (Knightsbridge Wine Shoppe): 100% grenache. The bouquet features cherry and pear notes which follow through on the palate. Straightforward, but enjoyable.
