  • Palest pink. Very light, crisp red fruit aroma. Round, creamy taste, good mousse, nice juicy acidity. Veering towards that pinot blood orange-iron thing I like, but it's a touch dilute overall. Fine but not especially good - compares acceptably to lower end champagne, however. The next day, more expressive, with a note of raspberry. [Composite cork + cage; 12% abv; Lidl, £15.99].

  • I've not seen a rosé version of this cuvée before. Palest pink, like a glass of water mixed with a teaspoon of strawberry juice. A mild, unexciting nose with initially an unpleasant whiff that blows off and reveals a bit of red fruit. The taste outperforms this, thankfully - there's a good richness, with a meaty red fruit intensity that I associate with pinot noir-dominated cuvées (but the label carries no info on varieties). Good acidity, and what I assume is moderately high dosage that works well. Broadens out with air, nice apple and pear notes. Well priced. [Composite cork + cage; 12% abv; Aldi, £14.99].
