  • Drank over 2 days. I recommend drinking it closer to room temp. A good alt white to have on hand. Hard for me to pin down specific fruits or nuttiness associated with this varietal. Just a pleasant drink. Had I known this would be so good I would have ordered more. Drink soon though.

  • I was confused with the 3 Ridge Adelaida whites I had in my cellar and sorta opened this randomly. I guess I should have checked my CT cellar inventory first huh? Anyway I thought this may go good with a curry dish my wife made. Round and deep with a bit of a heavy mouthfeel. It drank okay over two days. I think my palate needs a reset though as nothing seems to taste good now. Last bottle of this I had 6 months ago was mediocre as well. I’ll try to give my last 2 bottles until next year before I liquidate them.

  • I figured this was ready for a trial run. Opened on NYE. It is hard for me to dial in a Roussanne profile. Quince, high toned pear, slate, minerals? It tasted like a Roussanne. Bright gold in color and light to medium bodied. On night two it changed a lot. The Roussanne-ness had faded. Much finer and not as bright, toned down. I’d give this 3 more years max, I may do another in the summer.

  • Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (Eagle Brook CC): Every bit as good as the bottle opened last month. Floral notes give way to orchard fruit. Deft oak frames orchard fruit, spice and jasmine flavors. 92+ pts.

  • Post Golf Dinner w/Friends (EBCC): Popped and poured. Quite floral to start, then white fruit and spice. Bright. Rich texture. Orchard fruit and honeycomb.

  • My third bottle, this time opened with my blind tasting group. It slow oxed for about three hours prior to drinking. The reactions were unanimous, and similar to my previous note. The bitter, woodiness overwhelmed the fruit. Nice viscous texture, and an interesting array of flavours beneath the wood including orchard fruit and green tea. But it was hard to get past the wood. No one identified it as Rousanne. It improved a bit after 2 hours in the glass so I’m still hopeful this will come around in a few more years.

  • Opened on the front porch with some Neapolitan white pizzas. Very soft and round with orchard fruits and florals. Time is treating this well. Mrs. TLV was 95+ on this.

  • Popped and poured. Opens with a viognier-like floral quality that I find appealing, along with a melange of orchard and stone fruits. Flavors of spice, quince and apple. Bright and elegant. 92+ pts.

  • I wanted to like this, as I’ve never met a Ridge I didn’t like. So I’m hoping my dislike was because I drank it far too young. I mean, it was only bottled 5 months ago, so that must be it, right? Because right now it’s bitter and woody. I could taste the barrel. On the positive side of the equation, there was nice oily viscosity, the flavours were robust and concentrated, it had excellent acidity, and I could begin to pick out the melange of fruit that was hiding behind the wood - even more so after a few hours in the glass. Granted, I have no experience with 100% Roussanne from California, but could it be so far removed from Rhone Roussanne? I think I need to bury the rest of the case for a handful of years and see what transpires.
