What a nose - tobacco, leather and blackcurrant fruit. Firm tannins and stewed fruit on the palate. Lots to enjoy but it does taste like it's drying out a bit.

Deep ruby colour. Pronounced and developing nose with red plum, blackcurrant, blackberry, eucalyptus, cloves, cedar, leather, earth, tobacco and pencil. Pronounced taste of red plum, blackcurrant, blackberry, eucalyptus, cloves, cedar, leather, earth, tobacco and pencil. Long and dry finish. Medium acidity. Medium tannins. Medium body. A very good Margaux that has matured beautifully. Drink now or over the next ten years. Goes well with beef or lamb.

Deep garnet red with leather-toned brim. Very pleasant, mature nose with notes of leather, underbrush and corints. Mouthfeel is fully mature with tannins totally integrated, with nice acidity, some fruit and notes of leather, underbrush and corints.
This is today fully mature and will not improve more, on the other hand it's in a nice spot and will most probably drink well for some three to five years more.

Clear garnet in the glass, youthful still. Nose of stewed plum, raspberry, balsamic and cigar box. Medium body and refined on the palate, red cherry and cassis. Fruit and tannin in total harmony here, and the 13% alcohol and good acidity keeping this really fresh. Long slightly tarry, slightly herbal finish. Wonderful claret.

Cigar wrapper, wet earth and sweet cherries work together to create a medium bodied wine with freshness, and sweet, ripe, spicy fruits. The wine is polished, peppery, elegant and with the complexity of sandy tannins in the finish..

Unmistakabley mature Bordeaux nose. Initial funk subsides quickly, but for the first hour a lack of apparent acidity makes the fruit taste overly ripe and oppressive. Things come into better balance by the end of a second hour--decant future bottles in advance!!--but for us this was better a year ago.

This 2001 is mature. It offers up plenty of perfume and kept me going back for more. To me, the fruit is still prominent and shows no signs of fading away. This seems to have hit its plateau and should remain there for several more years. My type of mature Bordeaux.

Amsterdam UGC Tasting and Winemakers' Dinner (Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky / Café De Klepel): Magnum. This is such a wonderful vintage for Du Tertre - what a pity that it took almost a decade to come my way again. It is fully mature now, with lovely tertiary development and complexity, whilst retaining its elegant and fresh core. Lovely flavours and length.

The last of my 01s and the best, this is an excellent example of Du Tertre. The 00 has greater depth and body, so will overhaul the 01 in the future, but for now this is actually drinking better. It has developed notes of red cherry on the nose and palate, but the most noticeable change is the elegance, much more pronounced than before. Of course this also denotes the start of the decline and there are faint signs of it already, but it should still remain excellent for another two or three years. Highly recommended.

A slightly reduced nose blew off with about 30 minutes of decanting and the wine was fully open and ready in little over an hour. Perfumed black fruit just beginning to acquire secondary nuances, and it presents as both rustic and elegant at the same time. Should evolve wonderfully from here. Tried one bottle to see if it was ready for a dinner party. Opened a bottle straight from the cellar and did not decant. Originally a bit disappointing with little depth and strong tannins. Once it came to room temperature it gained strength and depth and became very pleasant. Definitely ready to drink

I think this may even be better than the 00 - it's certainly drinking very well. Still the yeasty finish the last bottle I tried had, but that's not a criticism. Fresh redcurrant and cassis with a little more Margaux elegance than usual from this estate, definitely recommended.

BWC - BDX - St Julien and Margaux (Scenic Loop Cafe): Great exotic expressive nose showing it’s cab franc, along with some leather and currants. Ripe briary red fruited palate, quite ripe, with fine focused tannins in the background and a plush mouthfeel. Medium finish showing a little cedar and earth. A very nice wine and much better than the ’03 at the Chateaux. Doesn’t strike me as the quintessential “Marguax” though, but maybe I just don’t know what that is.

Weekly tasting group #024; Bordeaux 2001 (@ VD): Carmine red. In the bouquet a slight touch of barnyard and pleasant oak. A very juicy start with a little sweetness, but also dusty cassis. The tannin is ripe, mild and round and still offers a pleasant bite. There is firm acidity and bitterness as well. This is a beautiful and juicy wine with some length. Young maturity stage now and with a future at least until 2016.

Deep and vibrant ruby. Scents of grandma room, smoke, blood, oak and sour cherries. Med to full bodied with melted and sweet tannins and flavors of plums, chocolate, spices, caramel and cedar. Quite short aftertaste. Very pleasant and mature wine to enjoy now or the next two years.

Deep ruby core, narrow pale ruby rim. Open, reasonably intense nose showing black and red berry fruit, vanilla, a little spice and a whiff of toffee. Medium/full bodied on the palate, very soft tannins, pleasant creamy red and black berry fruit, medium acidity, hint of chocolate on the medium/good length softish finish, just a whisper of fine tannin on the tail end. Modern style, wthout much in the way of complexity or minerality, but attractive enough and certainly drinkable now.

Fourth bottle of a case (no notes for first three). Dark (very dark!) cherry, licquorice/aniseed and burnt toast on the nose, very enticing. Palate is smooth, the spice of the oak integrating very well with very dark, almost tarry fruit. Almost like a Barolo for dark fruit expression (though more medium-bodied of course, and not as overtly tannic). Medium-long finish. Delicious, and no rush to drink the remaining bottles.

Oh happy day, BBR had more 2001 du Tertre in stock, so I bought some (with some 2000 for good measure). The 2001 is better than the 2000 right now, and it's still as good as I remember and even better now it's dark, cold and increasingly Christmasy outside - it's full, rich and warming with a lovely thick mouthfeel, good balanced tannins, bags of spicey fruit and a finish which takes it's sweet time. I should have bought more of it, my world will be a noticeably worse place once it's all gone.

Drank with Sievenpiper. Decanted for one hour. Dark red in color and very thick glycerol-like legs. Nose is somewhat closed with meat juice and salty tones. We were somewhat disappointed with this and decided to wait another hour and a half. This wine started to open up and was much more pleasant by about 3 hours. Now oak, cherries, pepper and subtle lavender could be detected within the meat juice and salty scents. As with the nose, oak and meat juice (we were looking for a word to describe the juice of a portobello mushroom and thought this term, used by others, worked) are accompanied with toasts, tobacco and peppers. We could not detect any fruits in this wine … this was both odd and interesting at the same time. I would also add that this is a moderately chewy wine and recommend at least a two hour decant, however, you should sneak sip here and there early on to see it evolve. This is a very well balanced wine. When we first opened this we were considering 85-86 (we were probably a bit bitter with the price), but upon breathing we argued about giving it a 90. Because I write these … 89 it is.

From a Bordeaux tasting at BBR. Only a quick sketchy note taken at the time. Circa €45 per bottle. Softer and more reserved than some other wines in this tasting. Excellent flavours of soft black fruits, and burnt toast. Lovely smooth composition. Well received at this tasting and generally agreed to be excellent value at €45.

Swampy, tobaco on the nose, and some residual berry. Oak and berry flavors, still a slight swampy funk to it. Has a nice lingering but not overwhelming finish. This is my second bottle and doesn't seem to have changed much in the last year, but still a great wine.

Rich hued purple color with a very firm nose that smoothed with time to show a floral quality with dark berry nuances. Not a delicate wine, but not overwhelming, as it was very enjoyable by itself...with no food to accompany it. While accessible now, there is still a lot of room to grow.

Really great. should have decanted longer (> 1 hour). Mature, but tannins still present (more years to improve?)

good after an hour decanting.
Tannins very smooth now, with a bit of character. Had on a piece of tenderloin with caramelized onions
Probably time to drink it now

Delicious, full of redcurrants and a touch of cassis, with a good yeasty finish. It doesn't taste like a Margaux, but that's the only drawback. Excellent value, one to seek out at auction.

A very very sweet, fuity, expressive and Margaux featured nose. Though the palate is a little thin with less compexity, I would say that this is already a quite satisfactory wine to enjoy now. 92 points.

Very nice wine at BWC tasting. Nose was very floral, with touches of vanilla and blackberries. Palate was smooth, with a distinct red fruit profile. Dusty raspberries, minerals, spice. Nice elegant finish. My #5.

I really like du Tertre. The 2000 was terrific, and this is just a half step behind. Medium bodied, with a nice nose of red berries. Food-friendly. Lingering, pleasant finish. Ready to drink, but will likelt evolve nicely for at least a frew more years.
