When QPR is mentioned, this wine certainly qualifies for being near the top of that list. Red and blue fruit holds hand with Mediterranean spice, garrigue, old leather and a touch of peat moss. Great depth and texture. The nose awakens the senses. At sweet 16, this wine is absolutely amazing w8th a hand full of years still in the bottle. A QPR masterpiece!

Just a wonderful expression or Tempranillo. Red and blue fruit with a touch of Mediterranean spice. Wonderful depth and texture. The tannins are soft, but still present. Aromatically pleasing. Good juice.

Simply put: a fabulous wine! And, even though it is 14 years old, it is fresh and a bit tannic which means it will last for quite a few years to come. I am bummed this is my last bottle!

Red and dark fruit accompany sweet tobacco and underbrush. There is a lot going on in this glass. Wonderful texture and depth. This wine is layered and possesses the “X” factor. Everything is in balance. This wine is in a good spot, but there are many years of good drinking still ahead. One hour decant. Good juice!

It's been 6 years since our last note on this wine. It has lots of the same characteristics, but has smooth out nicely. Has an expressive old world, dark red stewie fruit spicy nose. The fruit is stewed fruit, fig and raisin. Leather, pencil lead, cedar and stemmy herbs add to the predominant mid-palate. Has an medium length finish with well integrated tannins. Can see this aging a little longer, but not much more.

I had 2 glasses from a Coravin-ed bottle on night 1, same on night 2, then opened the bottle on night 3 and drank remaining 2 glasses. By night 3, this was beyond very good. I know the Coravin doesn't allow any oxygen in, but I think it allows a little oxygen in. On night 3, the wine seemed much more mature, very smooth. Delicious with my husband's prime rib chili. For the next bottle, I either wait 2 years or decant for 4+ hours, probably the former.

Very consistent with last year's showing. 750ml bottle stood for weeks, then PnP. Deep ruby color, deep and rich dark fruits on the palate with dusty, charming Old World tannins. I mistakenly consumed this on its own again. Would be much better to match this with some grilled meat instead. No rush to open the next one.

A tad disnjointed (smelled of stewed fruits & alcohol) but after 1.5 hours in a decanter that went away. Black in the glass. Tobacco, blackberry, charcoal on nose. On palate, black cherry, blackberry, figs & cassis. Full body but has structure. Heat didn't show up on the palate (with a decant). Really enjoyed. 93+

strong aroma of dark berries, some cedar and heat. on the palate, rich with the same blackberries and boysenberries, with a bit of fig (sweetness) also strong with licorice - hard to place, but surely other tasting notes confirm. Good acidity and lift. Tannins mellower but still show that it has a ways to age. the heat and tannins make it a tad disjointed.

Tried over two nights. 750ml bottle stood for weeks. Brief decant and pour. Black ruby in color, deep and rich dark fruits on the palate with dusty, charming Old World tannins. Night Two showed a much softer profile, as you would guess. Both nights consumed on its own, would look to match this with some grilled meat in the future. Very enjoyable if a bit unremarkably simple. No rush to open the next one.

second bottle...tannins have greatly softened over these 3 years. Still, with a few hours of air, shows that it has more aging to offer. Nose: dark cherries, berries, some heat and wet hay. Mouth: rasberry, mulberry, black tea, some drying leather-like edge. Still has some muscle. cheers.

Very dark purple; smokey, oak, dark fruit nose; lots of bitter dark fruits and edgy bitter tannins, finishing way off balance and very hot. I'm a little flabbergasted by the previous notes, which makes me suspicious of an off bottle, but I'm not detecting any telltale signs. Ill revise this after the next bottle if necessary.

Decanted for 1 hour and had with grilled NY Strips (salt / pepper dry rub). Excellent. Dark black / red color - looks very young. On nose, black cherry, black raspberry, some cinnamon & baking spice. On palate, black licorice, cassis, dried figs, baking spices & rosemary?. Despite the alchohol, this is a very balanced wine with a very long finish - Would buy again and one of the better bottles that I have had this year.

Big, dark, brooding with some rough edges that time will smooth out. Balance flavors of prune, raisins, roast meat, pencil lead, woody herbs such as sage and rosemary with a touch of vanilla. Fun to drink now, but give this wine another 3 to 5 years to become more elegant.

Big modern spanish stuff. Creamy layors off fruit, pepper and spice. In spite off the richness it seems wellbalanced. This is a top bottling, but it disappoints me a little due to high price and hype.

Nose is somewhat muted tonight compared to the rest of the flight. Cool, spiced blackberry and even a bit stony. On the palate, harder, firmer, muscular...man, this has gotten sexy!
Notes: Entirely biodynamic by Peter Sisseck (Pingus, first vintage abt '91). Spanish version of a Bordeaux blend. Outside of Ribera del Duero, technically lowest label designation. New French oak. (51% Tinto Fino, 30% Cabernet, 7% Merlot, 5% Syrah, 3% Verdot, 2% Franc, 2% Malbec)
Spain (Waterford Wine Co., Milwaukee): here again, that popcorn as spice box off the nose. a life in the nose, but seeming lost to me next to the 2003 Aalto. more decidedly black fruited.

Out of "big modern Spain" this always seems to me to be one of the more complex bottles that I taste and cellar. Shows barrel char, ripe fruit, but also green, herbs, grilled meats, complexity. Palate is softer, more inviting than some from this vintage. Still large to overly large, but well done in that size. I have bought it repeatedly over $70 and would still again.

Meaty, bold, with pronouced nose. Is that the oak? Or the melding of oak and tempranillo. I would like to say its cosmetic but that doesn't quite do it. Its modern, its international, yet its also got that meaty tempranillo meats high char french oak thing. So it does show some terrior? I love it. I would buy it again for $70.

Mega Slide (Waterford Wines Milwaukee): opaque black. rich dark blackberry. black top. very thick nose. black. black. black. Medium acid and big wood and tannin on the palate. beast of a wine, that after an hour or so opens to nice espresso and the sweetness of the new oak is starting to show.

Haven't had one of these in a bit. I believe I was running on the thought that 2005 was the best from Quinta Sardonia yet. So here goes another bottle. Tobacco leaf, dark cherry, of course that overlayment of fresh wood on roasted tempranillo. Powerful, becoming more graceful, toning itself. Big yet drinkable. I really like it. Worth the $66. The tannins on the back aren't real strong to me so maybe we are moving forward on the drinking schedule.

Clearly the best Quinta Sardonia that I have ever had (and just to toot my own horn, I have had them all muptiple times). A muscular brut of youthful oak and sweet cassis right now but a seemless chassis built for going the long haul. Well worth the $66 asking price.
