Burgundy Pinot is out of reach $$ for many of us, but it’s nice to find a semi affordable one just to be able to compare & contrast with domestic. This seemed to be a tad on the lighter side, but not too much too. Varietally correct. Would have liked a bit more depth and complexity, seemed generic but not in a bad way. Can still find mass-produced Pinots from Russian River Valley that are a click or two better. That said, this was quite enjoyable.

Inoffensive but nothing special. Transparent ruby in color. Nose is some non descript Pinot funk. Some spice, red fruit, animal on the palate. Bitter. Not a whole lot going on. It’s ok for the money. Weak representation of the village but understandable given the low price.

Overall: first time tasting this in a couple years, I remember this being very bright with lots of red fruit and acid. This is slightly toned down and more earthy notes are coming through. Still pretty good considering price vs place of origin, but don’t expect incredible complexity. I’ll drink my next one in a couple years I think - hopefully some of the bitterness on the finish will settle down.
Appearance: translucent ruby, slight earth tones around the rim
Nose: largely earthy, with soft spice notes; maybe some leather; fairly integrated, with nothing sticking out
Palate: medium-high acid, medium-soft tannins. Candied red fruit, leather, maybe some pipe tobacco
Finish: medium length, pleasantly dry, tannins have some stemmy bitterness

Sale from CDF, 150CNY. The aroma is converted between animal fur and mushrooms, both slight. On the third day, the aroma still showed, and the oxidation degree of tannins improved. Even if it is not a good manufacturer, there is nothing to disappoint at the village level at this price.

Nose has ample tart red fruit, some cranberries, and crushed peppercorns. Palate is a little thin, ripe red fruit, could have higher acidity to lift it up more, not very complex. Enjoyable wine but somehow falls a little short.

From opening to the ending, it was dried which was enjoyable for me. Compared to other Bourgogne wines that I’ve tried, this bottle wasn’t red fruit forward. Rather it was Bordeaux blend type wine for nose but having typical Bourgogne silky texture. Good one but there are plenty of wines performing similar sub$30. Wouldn’t rebuy.

Agree with others. This bottle overdelivered and is a great QPR. Simple, food friendly, and still quite young. This should develop nicely if you can wait.

Although I expect improvement over time I thought it was a simple but still a lovely, soft, and nicely structured pinot - nicely balance of red fruit and minerality and that continued to improve with air-swirling and time in the glass. Look forward to giving it another try in a couple of years...

Ruby. Nose- red fruit, not complex, red fruit, bit of black tea. Palate- moderately dry, red fruit, bit of earth, lean, medium body, mineral. Straight forward pinot.

Good and sophisticated French but not as good as we anticipated. Agree the tannins could use some time to mature. Even then we have a number of more interesting pinot noirs for our palate so won’t be rushing back to get more.

Juicy and fun, with perhaps just a bit too much woodsy spice at the moment. I reckon this is less about over oaking and more about having an extra year or two to settle down. With decanting it would probably a nice red fruited pinot with some very nice Christmas spice. Finish is perhaps the weak spot with this one.

24 Aug 21 2018 Marsannay, Louis Latour, Costco $23 6:50pm decanted to very little smoke at the bottom. Muted classic Pinot with more dry leaves, touches of honey, tart berry, good finish. Touch of sweet confit, that comes around with essence of bay leaf, meyer rind, subtle, needs time. 7:12pm More candy comes out: Hard Candied cherry and blackberry with a big floral component. Palate has a delish fungal/earth length with some stars. There’s a crunch that shows up after 3 naked sips. Going to pair with pan seared lamb t-bone, so we’ll see how this changes. 7:24 Still naked palate. More grip and energy coming forward. Getting better and better. 7:43 Fresh pour: Still naked. Nose of funk, which was shocking. I guess there’s more to reveal! Dry stones, cherry, wet barn with neighboring greenhouse with certain flowers in bloom, strawberry. On the palate an astringency, dry stones, tart fungal strawberries with a dash of cherry, there’s that bay leaf essence with chalky dryness. Tasted of decomposed limestone.
Pairing with pan seared lamb t-bone: It did change on the palate, but for the better. Yes, this did pair well and I loved this bottle with the lamb and salad of mix greens and butter leaf. But I think I preferred it solo better.
Lots of ripe cherries, reductive nose, and tight acidity the first day; turn toward mushroom, forest floor, black cherries, and licorice on the nose the second day; juicy raspberry and strawberry on the palate; iron, floral, tangy herbs, and rooibos tea: crunchy acidity, medium-bodied, silky tannins. As good a deal as you will find in Village level Burgundy.

Appealing bouquet, particularly on the first day. Suave and expansive, very good concentration and balance, though lacking in range and depth. Enjoyable and good QPR.

Opened one bottle as a baseline, still probably some bottleshock, will age the rest. Promising, after decanting -- a bit restrained, but enough structure to carry at least a few years of aging.

Medium ruby in the glass. Lots of reduction at first, but blows off fast. Still restrained. Notes of unripe berry fruit, stalks and curry leaf. Medium-bodied, high acidity, medium depth. Needs 1-2 more years in the bottle to settle down and open up. Good value.
