  • Medium gold colour. Medium and developed nose with dried yellow apples, dried peach, lemon, petroleum, mushrooms and wet stone. Medium taste of dried yellow apples, dried peach, lemon, petroleum , mushrooms and wet stone. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A very good and well matured Chardonnay. Drink now. Goes well with cheeses, fish or shellfish.

  • Deep Amber. Honey and melon favors almost like a dry version of Sauternes. Good fruit. Ample acidity. Surprisingly well preserved

  • The first clue that something was amiss was the fact that the cork easily popped in half as I was trying to pull it out. The initial smell was actually fantastic… warm apple pie and citrus. Seemed like I had a winner in my hand. Color was amber but not too horrible… not out of the line for 10 year old Chard. But the first sip… sherry. Underneath the butterscotch you can tell that this once was a wine of complexity and power, with a nice, oily body and hints of apple, overripe pear and peaches. Most of the notes I’ve read for this wine mention bracing acidity but in this bottle it was 100% gone. GRRR.

  • Fantastic white Alsace blend of chardonnay and auxerrois. For an '05 this is drinking great right now! Beautiful golden color, nose of creamy lemon pith and honey. On the palate there's more of that creamy lemon cheesecake along with ripe golden delicious apple, dried apricot, creme brulee, and some fine acidity to balance out the fruit.

  • I've tasted this wine three times now... once it was a fresh and fun 92 point wine easily... once it was an oxidized and interesting bottle that would hit 90 points easily for me, and this time it was a very much above average 88 point wine.

QUINCE everywhere in it. Baked and even burned butter. Almost a runny milkshake of full-bodiedness. Burnt apple chips, too. I was very happy with it for 19$

  • Pretty good, but not great. Brillant yellow in color, lots of honeysuckle and pine one the nose. Texture is oily, yet creamy.....palate has lots of lemon and mineral, fairly tart not sweet. Went really well with Caesar salad and sauted scallops. Interesting, but not worth the $25 price tag. 84-85

  • Brilliant straw colour. Nice complex nose of honeysuckle, apricot and flowery notes, slightly hot. Powerful attack on the palate, refreshing acidity to balance with the high alcohol content, flowery and candy character and good lingering finish. Good wine at a bargain price!

  • Trentieme Fete d'Anniversaire et degustation de Bordeaux mil. 1979 (Indianapolis, IN): Perhaps the group's overall favorite wine of the night. A blend of 2/3 Chardonnay and 1/3 Auxerrois. Unbelievable Alsatian aromatic profile that defies the 2/3 chardonnay composition. Sweet apricots, pears, citrus, and baking spices. Viscous mouthfeel, lingering presence, balanced acidity. Served with carrot and fennel soup. A wine to buy by the case.

  • Saturday tasting at Chapel Hill Wine Company. This pale colored wine has really come into it's own very nicely since bottling. Just screams out Windsbuhl, especially on the very smoky finish. Great wine, especially when considering that it is an entry level bottling. 50+12+12+8.5+8.5 = 91

  • The Magical 2005 Vintage at Domaine Zind Humbrecht (Turckheim, Alsace, France): Tasted from cask. Like 2004, this wine was comprised of 100% Clos Windsbuhl fruit ( Chardonnay and Pinot Auxerrois ). Just finished fermenting in January and will be bottled in September. Pale yellow in color, I liked this wine better than the Pinot d'Alsace but not by as wide a margin as in 2004. Such is the nature of the 2005 ZH lineup where everything is bunched near the top of the bell curve, more so than usual. Very smoky and really dry tasting. Olivier has this as an indice 2 but said he may have made a mistake and should have made this a 1. I would agree with 1 based on this tasting. Really great acidity and a long finish. 50+12+12+8+8 = 90
