One of my two last bottles from a case of the 2017. On opening, a familiar lively nose of flowers and dried strawberry, which fills out over the course of the bottle into richer and riper fruit, always balanced and sometimes overbalanced by ashy tannin on the finish. If I'm being analytical, there's some roughness and discordance here. But there's also enough vibrancy, and a seductive enough nose, that I don't care about being too analytical, and it's delicious enough with a spicy sobrasada pasta to make me reminisce about nerelli past. This case helped get me through the pandemic and I'll be sorry to see it go -- and if this bottle is any indication, it'll go out in style.

From magnum. This former Contadino - which upon release felt somewhat rowdy and fiery - has aged into shape in a spectacular way. The wine still has great freshness to the crunchy berry/blood orange fruit, while tannins gently nibble away and spicy-salty-liquorice minerality create small eruptions of volcanic energy on the tongue. We hardly perceive the 14,5 % of alcohol anymore - not even the morning after - and the wine just drinks like a charm. One of these big bottles left, no hurry. (Disclaimer: ITB with Swedish importer Vin & Natur)

Distinctive aromas of fresh flowers, volcanic earth and ferrous material. More medium bodied than expected with tart cherries and a richness balanced by acidity. Delicious but needs food at this point in its evolution.

A hot vintage Susucaru with 14,5% ABV makes for a good BBQ companion. Dark cherry, earth, crushed rock, tannins that bite back. Not much has changed after two years in the cellar, will probably stand for another five, but there is no need if matched with fat, salt and big flavours.

This drinks like a high quality Cru Beaujolais with a touch more rusticity. I love Cru Bojo and am digging this wine. It tastes more mature than I would expect of a ‘17 so enjoy now and over the next 6-12 months. Prefer this to the ‘18 rosato tasted recently.

ruby with orange reflections on the rim. strawberry, raspberry, and herb on the nose. medium bodied with natural acid tingle. savory strawberry flavors and dusty earth on the palate. mouth coating dusty tannin on the back. drinking well.

Flawed, and probably in more ways than one. Bought three bottles of this wine, and all have been flawed, to varying extents; this was the worst one, and it was not drinkable.

Fresh and dried cherry notes. Cranberry, cherry, mountain herbs, very little spritz, firm acidity and plus tannins clip the finish. Sort of caught in the middle of a glou glou and something with more structure, which is a bit confusing. Still very fresh tasting and nervy.

This wine was mistakenly labeled rosato in the store, but it is clearly the rosso. I can understand the mistake as it only recently went under the susucaru name, it was formerly known as Contadino. Dark berry fruit and smokey notes, entirely enjoyable. This is a fun wine, I will be buying more, if there is any more left

Feels unbalanced with dark but thin fruit, spritsy feeling and quite pronounced, hard tannins. Fresh acidity though, providing some lift. Much less fun than last bottle.

A blend of 85% Nerello Mascalese, with Nerello Capuccio, Minella Nera, Allicante Bouschet and Minella Bianco. Old vines in the Northern valley of Mount Etna. Unoaked, very low sulphur, 14.5% ABV. Very much in the natural wine mould, but I did not detect the faults which some other tasters found. There is some undissolved carbon dioxide which helps preserve the wine and the tannins are quite grippy, but it also delivers freshness and fruit, with touches of spice and an aroma of bubblegum. Quite expensive for what it is.

Well, can't say I'm too excited about my remaining two bottles. We have a plethora of things going on here --- Thanks, natural wine!! --- A light splash of brett on the Nose and the palate, some V/A, as well. There are some pleasant red-fruited and earthy aspects to the aromatics, but one must kind of bob and weave through and around the flaws to get there. Color is not very concentrated. Incredibly raspy/green tannins on the palate make this fairly difficult to drink. I did sample this over the course of a few days, and the air did benefit it some, but I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this wine. Given this producer's manner of producing wines, I have every reason to believe this bottle was representative of this wine.

Pale, cloudy cherry red in the glass. Huge funk on the nose that covers up most of the bright red fruit aromas one would expect from Nerello. Strong herbal, savoury character on the palate. Acidic, sharp and somewhat clumsy structurally. Misses some serious grip to accompany this profile and patch in the holes. A huge step out of classic varietal expression is obvious, but as much as I'd like to be enthusiastic about this wine and understand its artistic nature, I simply don't see the quality in it.

Spicey. Strawberries. Blood orange. A lot blood orange. I really thought the nose was very promising. But this is just too much blood orange for me. A bit fizzy. Better chilled.
After a while the blood orange chills down. This wine is a rollercoaster. Somewhere between 85-89. Last glass is the best.

The old Contadino. Tart red cherry and some watermelon on the nose here. Classic glou-glou red wine style, without going overboard with the natty flavours. A moderate hit of fizz that dissipates fairly quickly in the glass. Surprisingly tannic for a wine that ought to be patio drinking, and a bitter finish here that's distracting.

So I guess this is Contadino. Electric vibe. Pretty big and burly, ever so slight touch of heat. Lots of baking spice and warm, woody herbs on the palate, alongside dark berries.

Juicy in a very nice way, still some tannins/acid with a good grip and taste of red berries, refreshing . This will be perfect for the summer season, maybe paired with pizza.

My first wine from Frank Cornelissen and a great experience. Slightly lighter colour than the wines from Terre Nere. The nose is probably the most distinctive feature of this wine. Very sweet and fruity (black raspberry and strawberry), akin to juice more than wine, nicely fresh despite 14,5 ABV. In the mouth the wine is all about elegance and purity. Only moderately tannic but with a beautiful silky texture. Fruity with some dusty, rocky elements, a pleasing bitterness on the finish. With some swirling the aromatics become more powerful (always a good sign) yet the wine never looses its light touch. Somehow burgundian but overall sweeter, gentler and easier to appreciate. I can imagine the wine to age quite well, not due to its tannins but its balance; then it should add some more complexity. I will buy more and curiously await tasting the Munjebel.
