  • Black current and pure fruit to it. Outstanding.

  • Lovely wine. I enjoyed it over 4 days. It was excellent the first and 2nd evenings. In decline on the 3rd. I'll be interested to see how it ages.

  • A little more polished than I usually like my Bordeaux, with a rather noticeable sheen of oak around the ripe red and black fruit, though the oak does integrate with a couple of hours in the decanter and ends up playing more of a supporting role. But it's well balanced and impressively structured with plenty of fine grained tannin and bright acidity that adds a nice sense of lift, finishing with a savoury gravelly earthiness.

  • Right after opening this was not much fun, but I double decanted and some 20 hours later this is beginning to show its fruit, although the oak is still too obvious.
48 hours and 3-4 double decants later, this wine is starting to show its quality. Graceful and elegant, with great frtuit. Will surely score 94-96 in the long run.
Probably my best Malescot this far. Previously 1998, 2007, 2008 and 2010.

  • -- decanted for 45 min. before initial taste --
-- tasted blind over 3.75 hrs on Day 1; revisited on Days 2 and 3 --

NOSE: Day 1: high-toned purple fruits; not as earthy as #8 (2020 d’Armailhac); deep and persistent baked red fruit jam – raspberry coulis – in the background; more expressive than #8, but a bit less expressive than #5 (2020 Pedesclaux). Day 2: high-toned and dark-fruited; I like it; raspberry coulis.

BODY: magenta-violet color of medium-deep depth; medium bodied.

TASTE: Day 1: lightly-to-moderately tannic; non-descript at the 1.25 hrs open mark (all three of them are, really); ballpoint pen ink; juicy, despite the tannins, at the 4.5 hrs. open mark; probably my favorite on Day 1, followed by the d’Armailhac and then the Pedesclaux. Day 2: tannic; pretty much the same as Day 1. Day 3: red apple skin; tannic; alcohol more apparent today than on previous days. Best to Hold.

  • delicious wine--ready to drink now...sour tart dark cherry, blackberry, hints of cedar and wood...multi-layered with good length and finish.

  • Aerated/shaken.

Beautiful wine. Opulent nose of extremely concentrated rich dark fruit that hits you with power. Grapes, blueberries (but not sweet blueberry compote).

On the palate, the same dark fruit is there but measured by the good structure and acidity of the wine. It is well balanced. The wine is clean with a bit of leather. The tannins are medium-round, a slight bit of gravel.

The wine will benefit from a few more years for sure. The tannins are still strong but the wine doesn’t feel too tight. If you like some firm tannins, it is excellent now. But I will wait a few years before opening another.

At US $58, I think it can compete with wines in the $80-100 range. This is an excellent value. I have liked 2010, 2015, 2016 and 2018 vintages of Malescot St Exupery — this is in line with the others and continues a great tradition.

  • Deeply colored, the wine sports a nose of cocoa, flowers, black pit fruits, and espresso. The palate is full, rich, deep, vibrant long. The depth of fruit, length, and volume, as well as freshness attached to the fruit in the finish, is what counts here. The wine blends 49% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. 13.5% ABV. Drink from 2027-2050.

  • (49% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, 13.5%) Reduktive Nase, braucht Zeit, eher dunkelfruchtig, rauchige Noten. Einfach saugut! 95-97

2028-2044+ (April/Mai 2021)

  • Incredibly dark in color, the nose jumps with smoked currants, burning embers, singed cherries, spice and flowers. The wine is plush, dense, full-bodied and rich, with layers of polished, velvety dark red fruits that coat and soothe your palate, finishing with dark chocolate, sweet plums, licorice and espresso. Give this at least 8 or more years in the cellar and the wine is going to really start to show. 95-97

  • Not used to tasting wines this early but this was one of the better ones in the line up. Balanced with nice structure and finish.

  • Some rusticity/stink on the nose, also fruit seeds, juicy strawberry and clove.
Quite silky in the mouth, good texture and freshness, supple and juicy. Sweet ripe red fruits, some astringency and structure which builds +.

  • 49%M/44%CS/4%CF/3%PV 13.5% alc
