First Wednesday Wine Club (Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield): Served blind. Concentrated, a little earth, leather, Brett, aniseed, baked black fruits on the nose. In the mouth medium plus intensity acidity, a little mid palate scoop, plenty of drying tannic grip, a little plum, aniseed and a fair heft of alcohol warmth on the finish. I struggled with this one and ended up (because of the tannin and acid) sliding towards Italy, possibly Taurasi and about 2005

Popped and poured. Aroma of berry, spice, dishwater. Rich flavors of red fruit, olives. Tart cassis finish.
Full, pure flavors, good backbone, some complexity. I have no basis for comparison, but I'm guessing this is a little past its prime. That said, still evinces everything that's good about CdR.

This finally opened up on the second day. Black olive, fat and herbs with dark ripe fruit on the palate and well integrated tannins. This needs a couple hour decant or perhaps a couple more years in the cellar.

Medium, dark garnet colour. Somewhat closed floral nose. Dusty tannins and a smooth finish. Well made, but somewhat disappointing given the reviews. Possibly in a closed phased?

Deep purple. Nice aroma of grape (sorry, other fruit might be there too... but "grape" is the dominant aroma -- very nice). The tannins were well integrated and made for a balanced wine.

Medium nose with dark fruit and hints of liquorice.Palate is gorgeous, quite full and soft with dark fruit, black tea, olives and liquorice.Tannic as well but at the same time smooth and silky.Such an outstanding balance.Drinking perfectly now, despite its youth. This is a decent buy for 26,70€ though other producers CdR-wines are much cheaper.

Powerful nose of berries. Full bodied, lots of berry flavors. Somewhat rounded tannins (already!) which last long in the mouth. A well structured wine that offers you great pleasure.

Wonderful fresh and sleek syrah, with a touch of French funk and some sulfur (that blows off). Scorched earth, matchstick, black cherry and saddle leather.

shows all its northern rhone syrahness. cool fruits and plenty of rough and ready tannins on the finish but sleek texture in the mouth. lacks a bit of depth for the price. would imagine this will be better in a few years.

Initially there was a green wood aspect to the nose. This went away within an hour, revealing a more typical Syrah nose. The palate is promising, with some good fruit hiding behind the tannins.

Notes from a retailer's tasting. Very tannic, serious stuff, showing nice Northern Rhone Syrah character (blood, iron) but backed by some nice red and black fruit. This needs a couple years in my opinion. NR.

Clape makes this Syrah from his youngest vines. Really nice stuff: aromas of green olives, tobacco, and cherry presage the deep black cherry fruit you get in the mouth. Fairly tannic. Just a really nice wine. A by-the-glass purchase at a wine bar.

Dark red. Lots of fruit and some smoked meat. Medium body with firm mouth puckering tannins. Moderate acidity. Tannic finish. This needs time. Pretty good now but I would expect improvement with 3 to 5 years in the cellar.
On the second day, the nose shows some blackberry and floral scents with a stemmy quality. The palate is closed up and tight. All tannin and acid. There's fruit in there, it just needs time to come out.

Just arrived yesterday. Nose quite closed, but more expressive on the palate. Dark fruit and earth, with burly tannins. 3 hours later: much more in the way of aromatics. Deep black raspberry fruit, coffee and a mild herbaceousness. On the palate, fairly rigid tannic structure, with more of the same elements as on the nose. A rather rustic, gutsy wine that's a ringer for Cornas. I look forward to seeing what a couple years in the cellar do for this one...

Very floral with hint of olives. Dark cherry with earthy notes. The palate, compared to the nose, was lacking clarity. Still a very enjoyable CdR.

Heureka. Marvellous fruit and stable aromas. Long aftertaste. Very well balanced. I can't wait to taste the better wines of this producer.

Deep, dark and dense... Not too expressive aromatocally tonight, but a real dense and chewy mouthfeel and earthiness.
