Pale gold color. Guava, grass, lemon zest, grapefruit rind on the nose. Lemon-lime, grass, white melon on the palate and some bitterness on the midpalate after the initial tartness, with finish around 25 sec. The grass reminded me of the NZ style but with better balance. There did seem to be a bit more punch than a typical Sancerre, making this easier to pair (smoked salmon BLT was a great match).

Pale gold, filtered Aromatics medium +. Spice, green herb, grass. Later some guava and lemon. Flinty reduction. Palate has medium + body. Lees feel. Acid medium +. No phenolics. Alcohol medium +. Lemon, lime, green herb and other tropical fruit Finish has medium length. Balance towards the alcohol Dry glass notes of cat pee and grass Overall quite ripe with the surprise of lees contact. Felt like a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to me. Drink now or hold

Double Blind tasting Pale lemon color Medium plus aromas of apples/ orchard fruit with tropical notes and what I thought was some mild oak influence Medium bodied palate - round mouthfeel from lees contact - palate quite tropical - guava Medium acidity and no noted phenolics - medium plus alcohol and average finish I am having a horrible time at picking these riper style Sancerres up on blind - the only pyrizines I could get were out of the dry glass - I called this a lesser Sonoma Coast Chard but the palate didn't feel right - it definitely didn't feel like a Loire SB either I felt the alcohol level (14.5%) dominated the finish and the palate was a bit dilute That being said, not a bad wine, but nowhere near being a favorite Sancerre Drink now or 2-4 years

Bordeaux tasting - with a few pirates: A fairly typical showing, this was an easily forgotten opener next to the beautiful 2013 Cristal. I feel like this has lot a bit of speed since my last bottle(s). Fine and all, but kinda boring. Guava, grass, lemon drop, green apple, and lime flavors offer pleasurable but predictable passage along the palate. I mean, it’s good, but I don’t know what distinguishes it from the thousands of other decent Sauvignon Blancs. Last bottle. On to something else.

Vinetasters: Sauvignon Blanc (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. A floral/honeyed nose, with plenty of bell pepper behind the more high-toned aromatics. Seems to be classically styled, definitely drinks like a French unadulterated sauvignon blanc than most others in this tasting. Good acidity but greenness shows in the form of some astringency (think unripe green stems). My 3rd, group's 2nd.

Our last of seven, alas. It was lovely, as usual, over three nights, although perhaps showing a bit less complex and intriguing lime than previously. We will look for future vintages ….

Even more solid and complete than last year, this d’Antan excites the senses with freshly cut white flowers, acacia, lime and lemon juice and zest, limestone, white melon rind, and a cream cheese texture that perfectly juxtaposes the spritely spitting of citrus juice and tart flower elements.
An excellent expression of the varietal, and a wine that absolutely crushed a Napa Sauvignon Blanc that shall remain nameless just due to the sheer shame of it all. All four of us could barely return to the comparatively lifeless domestic dud once the Bourgeois came into the picture.
Excellent floral aroma is addictive and enticing. Palate is well-balanced between citrus (lemon especially) and body. Not too strong, not too soft. Not sour, not sweet. Extremely well done, and what I hold as an example of how Sancerre should be done.

Three weeks later, and just as lovely. Against our own advice, we let it get a bit too cold, and learned once again — that suppresses and retards. Again highly enjoyable over three nights.

A few weeks after the prior: again, distinctive and lovely — this time we noticed a pleasant savory pineapple component in addition to the dramatic lime. And again, tasting from the bottle over three nights (gassed and refrigerated in between) it was far superior when not too cold. We just noticed, 14.5, wow — but the wine carries it well. This is at this point our favorite Sancerre.

The note by CSimm1161 below describes this beautifully. More than any Sancerre in our memory, this has a fabulous rounded and complex lime aspect that we found captivating. But note, that lovely attribute was deadened when we let it get too cold. We learned that lesson on the second and third nights, and then this creature really sang again. Super — and we will get more.

A strong floral and citrus nose sets up the palate for flavors of lime, acacia, creamy lemon, white melon, creme fraiche, and white travertine. An elevated smooth texture counterbalances the punchy citrus. The balance of acidity, zesty fruit, and vanilla cream orchestrate especially well here.

Bordeaux tasting with some Napa outsiders (The Embrace of Silence): I almost missed this and the François Chidaine Montlouis-sur-Loire Les Bournais as these tucked away and almost missed in an alcove.
Nose of fresh white fruits, bitter minerals, grass and light straw.
Flavors of deep yellow fruits with a backing of white fruits, some bitter minerals and similar straw from the nose.
Had this late in the game but even so, this was pleasant for what it is.
