@ Capital Grille Wall Street. Needed 1.5 hours to really open up. I had this at Promontory last year and in comparison the wine feels a bit more shut-down, lots of upfront spice and alcohol that needed swirling to harmonize. Deep primary fruits and feels less unique to the Promontory mountainside terroir and more of a generic, good Oakville. Giving my other 2 bottles at least 3-4 more years to sleep.

Wonderful wine from my favorite West coat winery. Deep garnet / crimson color. Deep red fruited nose is caressing and voluptuous. Sultry. The palate is still a bit tight and tannic but the texture is there. Should blossom in five years or so. I love the freshness these wines show while showcasing CA fruit and texture. (93)

Still youthful purple. Blackberry fruit mixed with fresh cream and some earth. The depth is outstanding but so is the uplifting acid. Drinking well. PRetty darn terrific. (94)

Fun wine to try but when I heard the price tag on this I laughed out loud. File this wine away as a great way to show someone you have too much money and not enough imagination without actually outright saying it. If you’re buying this, I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn…..

Napa Trip - Trying new wines and meeting new people; 4/11/2022-4/12/2022 (Napa): Think my palate might've been shot by now on this trip. This is their second wine and tasting it next to their flagships doesn't really help. It tasted and felt like a lesser clone of their main bottling. The body was just a bit lighter/thinner and so were the flavors. It could've been me though.
Spring 2022 Dream Napa Trip; 4/11/2022-4/12/2022: Lighter style, less elegant and more austere than its big brother. Not sure if this is in the same QPR as a Bella Oaks, an Impensata, or an Accendo. Good wine, but not sure on the reasoning for a “2nd wine” for this estate.

This rich and layered Cabernet needs 2-3 hours of air at the moment, but it is just as classy and delicious as its predecessors (though I'd give the edge to the 2014 and 2015 at the present time). Look, I get it: a $350 "penultimate" a/k/a second-best Cabernet is the last thing Napa needs; "almost" is not what this price point demands. Still, there is a ripeness, wildness, and originality in this wine that are incredible (as is true with Promontory, perhaps at a greater octave) - and this wine should only get better with time.
Dark red in color and medium in body, the wine offers aromas of blackberry, graphite, and trial dust, along with fresh oregano, thyme, and violet (did I mention wild?). The flavors are fresh but full, with notes of black cherry, espresso, leather, and gravel, followed by a dusty and lifted finish that goes on and on. The oak is there but it is oh so integrated. 14.8% alcohol. I wish this were cheaper, but it is unique and delicious. 95+ at the moment, with upside in 2024 and later (by that I mean: way later). Decant a long time if drinking now.

Wonder rich texture of dark fruit balanced tannins and acidity. Nice secondary notes of oak and tertiary notes of earth.

Like Promontory proper, a rather savory and herbal character, with graphite and sage and cedar and spice. Medium-full body with balanced acidity.

Pure, elegant, fullish but not heavy. Good finish and to drink over the next 5 to 15 years. (93)
