Similar to my prior bottle. This ripeness of fruit is now turning to an earthy / stewy note that detracts from the wine and leaves an overall dirty impression. Drink up.

Opened but not decanted, unfortunately. Dark garnet-purple color. Nose of rose petals, tar, anise, earth. Rich dark plum, blackberry, tar, and brambles integrated with very firm tannin on the palate with a fair amount of acidity. Long finish of deeply-pitched black fruit, rock, and tar. A very good wine which would have shown much better after 2-3 hours in the decanter.

Dark red with a slightly lighter rim. Musk, tar and leather on the nose. Savory notes of soy and meat stock. Tannins are present but mature and almost resolved. Texture is velvety. There is fruit still at the core along with moderate acid. Finish is medium-long.
I did not find any overripe notes, on the contrary, it seemed more savory than sweet and the acidity kept it lively throughout the evening. This is at the peak of maturity for me. Lovely bottle.

Decanted for ~45 minutes and consumed over the next 3-4 hours. I suspect we are catching this one just past it's peak. The aromas are a bit muddled with some high quality black cherry, tar and nebbiolo spice that is marred with a hint of roasted/stewy fruit. Perhaps a signature of the warmer vintage? The palate had a similar muddled flavor profile. The palate was medium bodied with fine tannin and good acidity -- so no issues with the body. Slightly superficial in depth, but that's not my quibble with this wine ... it's that roasted/stew note.

Enjoyed this very much with lamb on Easter dinner. Silky smooth texture. Strong licorice notes on the nose that blew off over time. Very few tannins, acidity still vibrant. Very tarry with some cedar/herbal notes, flowers, orange rind, plums and raisins. Still drinking well, but I probably wouldn't hold much longer.

Decanted before having with Pasta with bolognese ragu, meatballs and parmegiana reggiano. I did not take notes at time of tasting. After 3 hours decanting it was really shining. Before that there was some minor smokey funk. On the nose strong notes of smoke and the classic tar and roses. On the palate red fruit, nice tertiary earthy notes, smoke and some leather but the red fruit was still there. The tannins had fully relaxed and acidity was nicely integrated. I kept wishing for more complexity & depth but this is an outstanding entry level barolo.

The color was red with a tinge of brown. The bouquet was a bit acidic. The taste was fruit forward with no "zing" The wine was ok, but not impressive compared to many Barolos that I have had.

Tar, roses, strong cedar on nose; incredibly smooth on palate, slight hint of baking spices, orange rind. Not much fruit to speak of. Bright acidity, slight tannic grip on end. Great paring with osso bucco--acidity and tannins cut right through the fatty nature of the dish.
All in all pretty good stuff, would have been 90+ if not for the such strong cedar elements on the nose.

Two hours in the decanter and this was rocking. Nice medium garnet red. Beautiful nose with classic scents of tar and roses. Also some subtle spices and red fruits. Medium body with some very firm fine grained tannins that are starting to integrate. The finish is very nice but too short. This is a very good wine though. Paired beautifully with some grilled fillets. Loving this wine right now but those tannins will carry this wine for several more years. 50 + 5 + 13 + 16 + 9

Brought to our Gourmet Group dinner: theme of Piedmont.
Having little experience with Piedmont wines, I decanted this for 45 minutes prior to departing to dinner. An additional hour on the counter brought the wine into good drinking shape. Very smooth, pleasant and a slight tannic bite on the finish--this was my favorite of the night as it seemed svelte and ready to go.

Nice wine. Decanted for 3 hours. Color is med red. Very clear. Smell is roses, tar and cherries. Also some dustiness on the nose. Taste is cherries, menthol and drying tannins. Tannins are very smooth, but also very dry. Finish is long. Enjoyable wine. Still young.

Poured at a retailer tasting. Advanced color. Aromas of dried flowers, pepper and spices, with flavors of sweet red fruit, though a bit washed out. Tannins might be too much for the fruit in this one. Came back to this toward the end of the tasting, and it had picked up a meaty aroma and the palate filled out a bit. 88-90.

Itaian Wines (Farpointe Cellar): This one was great. It had a nice nose of sweet cherry, cedar, and a touch of earth. The palate was silky smooth, with some nice cherry flavors, plus some cedar box. The tannins were very firm, with a long finish.

Brick red with classic notes of dried cherries, rose petal, and asphalt. Traditional style Barolo, medium body and firm, fine tannins. A bit acidic on the finish within the first hour, but this characteristic dissipated with time. Very nice.

very ripe nose dominated by tarry and meaty elements with a floral topnote, lovely entry, nice density in the mouth with good but a touch low acidity, from 1999 on a blend that includes Bric fiasco for structure, Ravera, Fossati for finesse, Bussia Colonello for elegance, Villero

Pale orange/ruby colour. Aromas of tar, roses, vanilla, chalk, spice, and currant. Medium-full bodied, fine tannins, with currant, spice, orange rind, vanilla, cherry, plum, and blackberry. Moderate-long finish, 40-45s, with berry fruit.

Rather simple, and lost a bit of the flesh from a year ago. Still a very nice wine for the money, but possibly starting to enter a dumb phase...
