Une robe dense avec des reflets pourpres. Un nez de cuir, de cassis, moka, bois (trop) et de la menthe. Une bouche sur le bois avec des tanins secs. Trop jeune ? Trop de bois ? Pas trop mon genre ?

Started out assuming this was mostly cab and discovered it was mainly malbec. Cab spiciness comes through in the nose, but this is heavier in body and the taste feels more like a blend. This was perfect with prime rib.

Second bottle tried, this one with a 4-hour decant, which I would say is minimum at this point in its life. As it opens, the blend plays through very nicely and makes this a pleasure to drink. Am going to be more patient with this and not touch for another 12-18 months. Paired with a chipotle chili pork and was excellent, which tells me this is a go-to with spicier dishes.

Part of a large tasting. 49% Malbec, 27% Petite Verdot and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon. Started with a shy nose, that opened with time. Black fruit, plum, cherry, fig, herbal. Ripe black fruits, plum, and spice. medium body. smooth medium finish, soft tannins.

One of the first notable things about this wine is its thick, deep, dark violet color. It’s a substantial wine with complexity to include dark berries, a subtle earthy sweetness, minerality and a strong backbone.

Mellow tannins, cherrish, berryish with oaky barrel smoke and earth. Nice simple Cabernet. It will be better in an hour. Drinking well now and has five years?

Scored this for just $30, so therefore like it more. A big Bordeaux blend, very dark in the glass and full on the palate. Dark cherry, raspberry, but also tobacco and a hint of menthol. Integrated tannins.

Finishing the balance of my previously Coravin'd bottle, this adds 1-2pts as the fruit is no longer dominant or quite so sweet. Overall much better balanced and now capable of pairing w beef. Slight black pepper / spice note on the front-palate finish.

Coravin'd two glasses, my first experience with this wine and my first Trefethen in 15+ years. As others note this is heavy on sweet fruit w softer tannins well integrated in the background.
Not for the long haul this is perfectly fine on its own or w food. I wouldn't pair this with heavy red meat, but it was a pleasant red before and even with tonites chicken piccata, and delivered a decent value for the $51 paid.

A really inky big vuluptious red that’s dominate Malbec which is rare from Napa but wow does the petite Verdot balance it out with richness and texture. Spice and tobacco on middle palate. Finish is a little reserved but will improve with cellaring. Decanted and enjoyed over an hours time.

This is not my style of wine but I like it much more than Prisoner and Caymus. Nice fruit, spice, pepper and floral notes. Big style but not way over the top. I respect that.

Petit Verdot really drives this wine, a one-worder is definitely “bold”. Very tannic and grippy, it needs aging and decanting. Probably at least two more years. After a day decant is still grippy and mouth coating, dark fruit but more leathery and mocha. Not perfectly balanced but a great option for your juiciest meat dishes like ribs or lamb shank.

Opaque purple/black. Brooding black fruits on the nose but the palate is LOADED with sweet blackberry jams and spices as well as cedary oak. This isn't designed for the long haul, but it's undeniably delicious right now! 92

Dark garnet colored, medium full bodied, perhaps too young to reveal its true character and potential as it was a bit tight and closed, still full round ripe black cherry and berry fruits with notes of dark mocha, spice, leather and black tea notes with full tannins on a long finish. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2022/07/team-cook-out-dinner-features-grilled.html

Tasted at winery: still really dang good. Probably need to buy a bottle. Fruity, bold nose but more balanced when actually tasted. Very dry especially after the first sip

Elegant. Old world in style. Black Cherry, Cassis and tobacco. A hint of leather and pepper. Blend of Malbec and Petit Verdot with a splash of Cab Sauv. Ripe Tannins with pleasant Acidity. Long finish with more dark fruit. Opened up nicely after a 1hr decant. A Trefethen favourite.

Event - Celebration - CHRISTmas - 2021 (Wine Vault & Bistro, San Diego, CA); 12/24/2021-12/25/2021: Wow! Very good alone and with pairings - see tasting stories for pairings - went well with all course pairings.
Bouquet faint intensity, raisin, leather, clove.
Taste high intensity, full bodied, black currant, raisin, bacon, leather, cinnamon, vanilla; smooth moderate finish.
49% Malbec, 27% Petit Verdot, 24% Cab Sauvignon.
$47/ bottle - over priced - did not buy. Would buy at $30 to $35.
