In a nice place. More expressive than the one tried a few months ago. Nice subtle stewed fruit, lots of tertiary leather, tobacco, etc. not overly complex but very satisfying. Will check in on another in a year as still has a few years in it.

Cloudy orange-red under the light . Slightly burnt orange peel and wild strawberries on the nose . Notes match - wild strawberries, heritage navel orange, and a confectionary note. Aged to perfection and delicious .

Definitely past peak, but still very good and structured—
There is probably some bottle variation. I mention this because, unlike other reviewers, this wine offered very little on the nose initially. Oddly the nose was best on the fourth day. At its best it showed baking spices, tobacco, leather, and red berries; on opening, it showed very little beyond a certain woodsy quality.
The palate improved similarly over four days. It filled out, taking on more body, more viscosity like a syrup. Eventually I got dehydrated raspberry and strawberry, sweet baking spices, and basil. On the first and second days, however, the palate felt tired by comparison. I would have scored this higher if the first half had been as good as the second half—

Delicious. As other users noted, the color of this wine has faded quite a bit (it was quite dark in the restaurant). The nose was incredibly perfumed with notes of cedar, tobacco, blueberries, saddle leather, and subtle vanilla. The wine opened up over the course of an hour with floral notes, ripe berries, and more leather. Tannins we’re completely resolved resulting in an incredibly smooth wine. Fantastic.

Similar reaction to the last bottle . Interesting how old red wine one-aged-in-oak all seem to smell/taste the same at some point. This one is lovely WITH FOOD.

Very pale in color. Worn leather and tobacco lead on the nose, with some cherries and orange peel peeking through. On the palate, the tannins are fully resolved and the texture is a bit thin. The fruit still shows some vibrancy, but the lack of structure at this age makes this come across a bit drab. Past its peak, but still clinging to life. Drink now.

Visiting my sister and her husband and wanted them to taste an aged wine. 33 yr old. Color alot lighter, tannins very resolved. Wine very smooth and luscious. They enjoyed it!

Slightly turbid visually. Orange, baking spice, a touch of lemon on the nose. Almost no tannins on the palate. Good acidity. Long finish. For a 33 year old wine, this is performing very well.

33 yr old Rioja goodness. After some issues with the cork removal, out came the light brick red and orange wine from it's long sleep. Very smooth and integrated. Well aged vintage leather, sour plum, dusty cherry, smoke, Spanish dry earth, and a touch of orange peel. Glad to have 1 more bottle.

A real pleasure to drink a well-aged 1988, smooth tannins, most of the palate showed variations of "dried"... roses, berries, leather, tobacco

Drinking quite well now. This was a birth year wine for one of our dinner guests last night that was great with roasted pork.

Plum essence and a smooth light finish. Light to medium body and has held up well for over 30 years. I need a case
