About the best I can say for this is that I didn't dislike it, but really there is a sad lack of definition or character here. Sweet, almost jammy fruit that could be from anywhere in Australia. Apparently this was 69% Shiraz/31% Cab from McLaren Vale, Wrattonbully, Padthaway, and Coonawarra. The 60% 1-year old oak is present but not overwhelming. Overall nothing "wrong" with it per se and pretty easy to drink for c£16 on offer, but it is a bit sad people might think was representative of the best of Oz!

Dark red. Unrefined and harsh, fruit overpowered by tannin and wood. Some stemmy greeness very noticeable. Was this another victim of being open too long? It should have been a lot better than it was, perhaps badly stored after opening as this was another bottle remnant.

3h decant, which I consider a minimum. Dense and smooth Shiraz/Cab with dark berries, forest floor, black pepper, some freshness (6 g/L TA), and warm herbs.
Lovely wine but not a great QPR at 18€. Brilliant pairing with boeuf bourguignon!

Inky purple and opaque in the glass. Jammy red and black fruit, strong plum, and a bit of spice. Smooth entry and the mid-palate has some complexity — nice balance between jammy Syrah and tightly wound cabernet. Long finish with well resolved tannins. Shockingly well resolved! A nice day drinker but not much more at this point. It seems to be missing that Penfolds touch.

This wine offers attractive aromas of ripe black and blue fruits with little oak influence. On the palate, it has a soft, rich entry with a hint of plum skins and fresh acidity. It is an intense yet easy-going wine, with a sumptuous mid-palate of milk chocolate, pepper, and a touch of spice. The finish is lightly grippy and sweet and is of medium to long length. It is pleasant without being remarkable.

dark ruby colour with violet rim; not really clear. nose: plums, blach cherries, black currants; some fruit from the pan; some smoke and cigar box aromas; spice - cinnamon; dry, elegant. taste: high acidity; high tannins volume, ripe but bit chalky; black currants, plums, some prunes; very good intensity; medium (+) finish. Excellent to food.

Agree, blueberries, blackberries and caramel; fruit forward on the nose and in the mouth. But....I don't agree there is much complexity or structure beyond the Shiraz/cabernet integration. Lovely summer party wine....an easy drink. But I would pay £12 (as I did in Tesco), but little more....

I have always been a fan of Penfolds from Australia, this wine as young but want to check it out. WE rated this year vintage at 95-93 which was one of the main reasons to check it out. I was not disappointed, it is well balance between fruit and tannins, I aerated the wine to help the process which mellowed out nicely. This is full bodied with medium tannins, this was almost Bordeaux style nothing jumps out just a great blend of Shiraz and Cab. The fruit was subtle and you could taste some mild smoke, I would add to any cellar or wine list.

Not as good as the last showing but still decent for the money. Dark, ripe with good acidity.

At charity tasting…Penfold table, wine #1 $17. Shiraz nose and on palate seems blended well with the cab. Was ok.

Heavy black fruits, tannins seem abit disjointed. Lacking on the finish. Perhaps it will integrate over time. Better after opening for some time.

Red and darkk fruits dominate with a little green propping it up. High tannins with blackcurrant and a little game on the palate. Very good
