We have drunk a range of the Potel 2005s. This has some charms -- a restrained, spicy complexity -- but is still a letdown after the Volnay, mostly because the acidity has more or less vanished, so the wine lacks some zip.

Light dark red. Nose of raspberries and some oak and earty tones. Fresh and concentrated wine with a spicy, long finish. Great, ripe wine from a great vintage.

Dark Ruby color, Ripe red cherries and Raspberries on the nose. Also an earth component: wild mushrooms, some mint as well as cola. Acidity was only medium, the alcohol was medium plus, a bit higher than I would like. The fruit was very ripe on the palate, confirming al the red fruits but also getting some blackberries. Cola on the palate indicates some new oak, but very well integrated and by no mean intrusive. Nice long length. This wine was very good. Very ripe vintage, so I felt could use more acidity and a touch less acohol.

Drank with Marc and Lies discussing business plan. Way more fruit than the Volnay. Strawberry and red berries on the palate. Rather short finish. Opened up after 1,5 hours. Pleasant, not great.

Corks: Burgundy (Rossford, OH): Wow, huge brooding nose, with some dill. Round, juicy, smooth. Very deep and dark, with great weight. Creamy. Very elegant. Black cherry. Long. Ready. Medium+ structure and body.

() Kleur: Fluwelig robijnrood. Leer, hout, vanille. Beetje metalig in de afdronk. Algemeen / potentieel: Niet mijn soort wijn. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 9 + Smaak / Afdronk: 13 + Algemeen / potentieel: 7 = 84/100

Umm....compares with 2005 Fixin : Meo Camuzet and 2005 Vosne Romanee : Lamarche....
Nicolas Potel...my friend tolds me that he always buys the grape from DRC to blend-over. The Gevrey-Chambertin 2005 is beautiful and seductive oaky scent. Rich and full-bodied, smooth tannic with the great direction of its aftertaste, lovely long-finished. Although I can not feel much in terroir but the wine shows up the beautiful sunlight in the afternoon of summer. Reminds me the taste of DRC's grape in October 2005. 93-94/100
Vosne-Romanee has a beautiful complex nose, seem like normal good wine but getting better with time, declares the classic of its terroir. It's good for wine-lover to find out how the vintage is. IMO, I think Vosne-Romanee is the best area for 2005. The finished is also very nice and very fine. Love to buy more. 92-93/100 ( WOTN )
Fixin is not the good area in Burgundy but, vintage 2005, Meo shows his talent of a great wine-maker. He has his own smell like Leroy and Prieure Roch. He makes this wine so round and smooth, very delicious with a hint of sweetness. It's not light in body like any other, For Fixin 2005, Meo must be the best. 93-94/100
By the way, Vosne-Romanee is the most austere among those wines, truly classic and hand made feeling :)

I bought a bottle of this to re-evaluate after the Winestreet tasting. Opened approximately 4 hours before pouring. Much more open than the previous bottle. Rich black fruit, light spice, and coffee, with a nice underlying minerally, earthy character beneath the fruit. This is impressively ripe but not over the line, and the oak treatment is well done. An excellent villages. I liked this about as much as Potel's 05 Chambolle-Musigny, and at ~$45, this is a good QPR.

Weekly tasting group RWP #355: Some random wines (@ DJ): Rustic bouquet with some minerals and cherries. On the palate raspberries and cherries, earth, herbs and spices, stone, firm acidity and slightly sticky tannin.

Delicious wine. Elegantly oak-spiced black and red fruit. Tannins could need a year or two to soften more.
