  • What a special treat to enjoy my first Roumier at one of the most beautiful restaurants on the planet - a near future Grand Award winner in the making.

In 1953, Georges Roumier acquired this clos in Morey-Saint-Denis, Clos de la Bussière. The 2019 Domaine Roumier Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru La Bussiere is an elegant rustic wine requiring a decade or more to showcase its Potentail. In this early stage it required a bit of coaxing to reveal itself from its tightly wound structure but when it did, it presented elements that forecast great things to come- predominately in the current, rhubarb, sour strawberry, raspberry and red current vein backed by flowers and a pleasant not over powering stemmy character wrapped tightly in its protective outer shell. With time the wall will recede and in its place will be a highly intellectual elegant beauty. 91+

  • Most of my Roumier is tucked away until my kids are old enough to drink it with me -- but after tasting so many accessible 19's recently I figured I'd give this bottle a try tonight. Good idea, as it turns out -- this is showing great right now! Silky and rich, with really pretty & polished fruit. Elegant, deep and weighty, such a classy wine!

  • How do I describe something so divine? The soft silkiness... The polish... It's voluptuous but lithe, sweet but savoury, powerful but meek... Absolutely remarkable and unforgettable. I am so very lucky. This is sheer beauty, sheer beauty.

  • Deep red and black fruit. Thick on the palate. Much bigger than usual for this wine.

  • Deep purple shading to ruby at the rim. Notes of violets, strawberries, cherries, stone, and a bit of brush on the nose. Deep and full to the taste, with darker fruits taking over. Hard to believe it's a burgundy. Acidity is on the lower side, and the tannins are warm at the finish.
