light red color as is often the case with a young Volnay, on the nose ponderous raspberry with an array of tight dark spice notes, violets, on the palate more expressive with a dazzling midpalate of crushed berries and other fruits tending to the red side of the spectrum, intensely floral, punchy topnote, quite powerful yet also very linear at this point leading into a long mineral-infused finish with great tension and a lingering aftertaste of punchy fruit and floral notes, a great Volnay rarely shows its cards in youth but even so this is a relatively restrained showing for a young Angerville Champans, pristinely structured but even now the joy of the ripe fruit is evident and most appealing, a first rate Champans and one that will take quite a bit of time to come around.

A bit disappointing given how strong the 19 Fremiets has been. Very clean, ripe, red berry fruit. Clean fruit all the way through. Finishes long with minerality and spice that eventually comes out. A fine bottle, maybe just shut, but no fireworks tonight. D'Ang Chaps also starting to get quite expensive.

A great wine, that is still very young. Decant well before serving (or wait 10+ years). Great concentration of red fruits, oaky flavors (need time to integrate properly). Excellent with food and delicious on its own. A stellar pinot.

This is singing. Beautify ruby red color. Crystalline and glowing. Transparent. Nose is beautiful and full of bright wild red berries, rich violets, and notes of spice. This is still primary but remarkably complex as it opens. Ripe but fresh. Palate is very open. Ripe fresh red fruit with sweetness but great lift and a drying and dense mid palate full of dry extract, ripe integrated tannins with balanced acidity and a good mineral backbone. Texture of a dense velvet at this stage. This is drinking amazingly well. With a sweet cherry driven finish that has good length and balance.

Angerville spring break (Alex): Nose with gunpowder, licorice, wax, and sweet red berries. With air honey and cherries. Simple and good taste of red berries, some oak, and with a spicy finish. Long with lean tannins.

After the very ripe and full-bodied 2018, this one comes with a more burgundian red and wonderful Volnay typicity. Very floral in the nose, fresh and balanced on the palate. Im very happy with this Vintage.

An eclectic night (Trapet, Duroché, Yquem,...) (Tøyen, Oslo): This needed every bit of 4 hours in the glass to reveal an explosion of raspberry, red currant, blackberry, stems, spices and damp soil.
At the end of dinner, this was just stupendously nice, what an epic wine!

From a half bottle. Incredibly good. This is a top over-performer for the money among red Burgundy, IMO.

Felt touch rustic to me, but no excessive heat.

Marquis d'Angerville Tasting and Lunch (Restaurant Fitzgerald *, Rotterdam, NL): Very charming and stylish, warm vintage but lovely freshness of fruit, aromatic, flowers, ripe strawberries and raspberries, tight and energetic, steely acidity, very long finish. Top vintage.

Grand Cru Portfolio Tasting (3/9 Grand Cru Portfolio Tasting, NYC): One of the wines of the tasting. So very pale. Nose has an almost stinky violet. Palate is stunning, great, sweet asphalt, spice, grip! Clay rises from the nose on the finish. Wow.
