  • I have had some very nice wines from this producer—this was not one of them. There are very few wines that I will just not drink but after tasting this I mandated that my guests pour their wine down the drain and I opened up another bottle of chard. It wasn’t corked (I’m pretty sure) it was just bad. The weird thing is, we had this at a wine dinner and liked it enough to buy 4 bottles! Maybe the bottle was bad. I’ll update when we open up another one. Again, CSM has some great wines. This was terribly disappointing. (SEE COMMENT)

  • Nose: honeydew melon, ripe pineapple and honeysuckle at first. Then a touch of citrus.

Palate: More melon and pineapple. The floral notes are a bit less pronounced than on the nose. There is some vanilla and a bit of butter, suggesting the use of oak, but it doesn't overpower the fruit. Acidity is medium. It straddles the stylistic line between an oaky Chardonnay and a more acidic, fruit-driven Chardonnay.

Overall: A well-made, tasty, easy-sipping wine. It's not super complex, but the flavors are balanced and the price is decent for the quality. I've yet to have any bad wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle. Yes, they are a large producer making primarily inexpensive wines. But the quality is usually good for the price and the wines don't taste syrupy or fake, suggesting Chateau Ste. Michelle sticks more to tradition and doesn't go overboard with the high residual sugar, artificial colors, and artificial flavors that you often find in cheap California wines.

  • We drank this last night at a wine dinner. We all enjoyed this and thought that it would have been priced higher than it was ($25-$30). It was buttery but far from being over the top. Not a lot of oak (probably more neutral oak barrels) but sometimes we like a more refreshing Chard, especially in the summer months. We were pleasantly surprise to see this for under $20. Great PVR and we are looking forward to receiving our order and enjoying it at home.
